Mike was the most generous man with his time we’ve ever known, the most capable and hardworking organizer of community fund raisers, always there and always engaged. When he asked for your help, you couldn’t say no. And he was always ready with a joke or straight-faced tease. St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Fitzroy in particular gained so much from his help and participation (and that of his family). When Michael was the caretaker at St. Michael’s school across the street, our kids, who attended, thought that he was the owner of the school, that is was named for him. What the kids didn’t know is that after the buses had left for the day, some rather surprising messages appeared on the school bulletin boards, courtesy of Mike. Carefully removed by next day of course.
