Dear Steve and family,
Betty and I worked closely together for many years. My latest memory of Betty is this person jumling in front of me several times in Costco. She told me then "she was working hard to beat this disease". From days at work to days out on her boat to a May 14 th day sunbathing on top of your houseboat and telling Betty there is a dog on shore just like mine.... it was my dog who jumped off and swam to shore.... these are all memories i cherish. I will miss you my friend but you will always be with me in spirit. Happy heavenly birthday today

Sincere condolences to the family.. Betty and Darrel were dear friends of my wife Anne ( deceased) and I when they lived in Deep River. Fond memories of dinner parties and especially get togethers with swimmers of the Deep River Candus competitive swim club. A long time ago but never to be forgotten.

I met Betty through the Arnprior Dragon Boat club many years ago. She was the best darn coach and paddle partner with her signature call "Shut up and Paddle". We had many great times on the water. The most memorable one was the day in Kingston that was my first competition ever and it poured rain the entire day!!!! However Betty never lost her enthusiasm and cheered us on despite the conditions. What a lovely and generous woman she was. My sincerest thoughts go out to Darrel, Kim and Steve at this time. She will be greatly missed.

During various past ukulele band performances, my wife Keri and I have had the privilege of meeting Betty. More recently, Betty and her ukulele band performed an unforgettable lively concert at a retirement home in our Orléans neighborhood. Betty was pleasantly enthusiastic and truly cheerful during and after the concert. A remarkable person indeed who had instilled the desire to get to know her and Darrel. We would like to confer our condolences and gratitude for having had the unique opportunity to get to know Betty.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Betty. I had the great privilege of knowing her, and I can honestly say that I met my match in her. Betty had an extraordinary way of keeping me humble, always cutting through my bravado with her sharp wit and unrelenting humor. Beneath the facade of her "Brutal Betty" character, there was a kindness, generosity, and care that touched everyone around her. She had a unique ability to inspire those fortunate enough to know her, leaving a lasting impression on all of us.
Our hearts are broken by her loss, and while she may no longer be with us, Betty will never be forgotten. Her legacy of humor, strength, and love will live on in each of us. We will miss her dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had with her.

For several years I had the privilege to follow Betty in the next lane of the 50 minute lane swims. She was first to start and swam freestyle continuously until she had reached her goal for that day. Time was allowed for a short friendly conversation before and after, otherwise it was time to get moving. Betty was an inspiration for all in and out of the pool. She will be remembered and dearly missed.

Ray and I were the luckiest of them all for having you and Darrel share with us the Mexican pool in Acapulco for 2 months. We were also the luckiest couple to have you both share the same wall when you moved to Arnprior. And now Darrel, Kim and Steve, we are sharing our unbearable sorrow. Betty, your presence will always and forever be felt deep down in our hearts. Enjoy your next life with the angels!

It seems fitting to say that I met Betty at the Nick Smith Centre in the pool. She was a champion swimmer and I was lucky to keep my head above water but with her encouragement I improved. I actually began to enjoy swimming. Whenever she talked about her family and her PUGs crew she beamed. Despite every health challenge she had endured, Betty enjoyed life and brought great joy to so many. My condolences to her family, her main pride and joy but I know she will always be with you. Thank you Betty.

Dear Darrel, Kimberly and Steven,
Thank you for sharing this dynamic ball of love and energy with the rest of the world! It was a privilege to be a part of her world, if only for the briefest time; Betty welcomed me into PUG 2 years ago and in doing so, she opened me up to a whole new community of music lovers, joyful music makers, and cherished friends. Betty shared laughter, friendship, and her heart-breaking journey with us and I am so honoured to have been a part of it. My heart breaks for you all, but I know that Betty is still with you in that deep, soft space in your heart where she now lives. With sincerest sympathy and sincerest thanks, Sue Diotte

Dear Darrel and family. I was honoured to have known Betty (Boss) as our leader with Pug (Prior Ukulele Group). She always made me feel welcomed and I loved her sense of humor and that infectious smile. This poem sums up how I felt about Betty,
The poem is titled "God Called you Home"
God looked around his garden
And found an empty space,
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest,
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
He knew you were in pain,
He knew you might never
Get well upon this earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
So he closed your weary eyelids
and whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you never went alone,
For part of us went with you
the day God called you home.
