I was most fortunate to be the principal at St. Michael from 1985 through 1987. Leona was the school administrator at that time and the communities strongest advocate. She loved The Harbour and those who were fortunate enough to work with her, loved her too. As a fledging Principal she welcomed me into the community and taught me more about organization, human relations and the role of the Principal than courses or Board staff ever could. Her warm smile was cherished and will certainly be missed. Kevin Mullins

We both heard the same thing when we were appointed to St. Michael in Fitzroy Harbour; trust Leona Watters. Trust her to be the face and the voice of the School, trust her to treat the children with kindness, trust her to treat parents with respect, trust her to proffer advice in the most diplomatic fashion, trust her to have your back. Leona was the personification of the calm, competent professional; routine or serious emergency, it would be dealt with confidently and competently. Leona’s smile and words of genuine delight caused the students to want to have a reason to deliver attendance books, show her their best work or share a cookie or birthday cupcake with her. Leona touched the lives of hundreds of children and adults during the course of the time she worked at St. Michael and it is hard to fully express how important her contribution was to the school and the broader community. To Leona’s loved ones, please know that she was held in the highest regard by so many and we are forever grateful for having had the privilege of working with her. Always a smiling face at St. Michael’s in the Harbour. Best secretary there ever was. Lots of hours spent at Lorne and Leona’s in my younger days. My grandpa McHale also worked with Lorne at CN Rail. Great family. My condolences to Matt and all the Watters family.
