Obituary of Leona Watters

June 30, 1933 – March 8, 2025

 

With heavy hearts, the family announces that Leona Anne Watters passed away peacefully at The Grove Nursing Home in Arnprior while surrounded by family on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 91.

Leona was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence “Lorne” Watters, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Together, they built a loving family and a home filled with warmth and kindness.

 

Devoted mother of Dan (Connie), Dave (Lynne), and Laurie (Ron Cole) and was predeceased by her beloved daughter Maryanne King (late Don).

Proud grandmother of Matthew (Megan), Tracy (Jon), Michael (Bonnie), Kelly-Ann (Chris), Trina (Nick), and Joey, and a proud great-grandmother of Ava, Lia, Aubrey, Greyson, and Rowyn.

Dear daughter of the late Michael and Arbena (nee Foley) Murphy.

Cherished sister of the late Frank Murphy (Doreen), the late Mary Cooney (late Don), Vincent (Noreen) Murphy, the late Theresa Read (Allan), Bridget Perrault (late Roger),

Carmel (Ed) Read, the late Joan Fraser (late Ian), Rose Campbell (late Michael), Helen Kennedy (Bryan), the late Audrey Killeen (Carl), and the late Jim Murphy.

She was deeply loved by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

Leona will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her devotion to family and the warmth she brought to those around her.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially tending to her beautiful garden, which reflected her nurturing nature.

Whether spending time with loved ones or sharing her love of flowers, she created an atmosphere of love and care that will never be forgotten.

Leona also took pride in working as a secretary at St. Michael’s Elementary School in Fitzroy Harbour for many years,

where she formed lasting friendships and made a meaningful impact on students and staff alike.

 

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Grove Nursing Home for their compassionate care.

 

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in St. Michael’s Church, Fitzroy Harbour on Monday morning, March 17th at 11 o’clock.

A reception will follow at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre.

Spring interment, St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery.
