Obituary of James Harvey Wight
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the death of James Harvey Wight, who passed away suddenly on March 24th, 2025, in his home in Carleton Place.
Jim was born January 7th, 1956, in St. John’s, Newfoundland to parents James Wight and Madeline (nee Bishop) Wight. Jim had fond memories from his childhood, especially ones from Ocean Pond at their family cabin where they played cards together and he went out on his beloved boat, “Bish”. He is survived by his sisters Jean Moore (Wayne) and Heather Vardy (Brian). Jim cherished the friendships he had with both of his older sisters and often told stories of the fun they had together.
Jim had an adventurous spirit that brought him to Toronto in the 1970’s. It was there that he met the love of his life and best friend of 46 years, Barbara Wight (nee Muir). Jim loved doing his favorite things with Barb—going to concerts, camping and canoeing in the woods, and cooking delicious meals. Being accepted into the Muir family meant the world to Jim—he deeply cherished the bonds he had with Barb’s parents, siblings, and in-laws.
Jim and Barb had four children together and raised them in Conception Bay South, NL: James, Grayce (Alec Mackenzie), Allison (Ben Jacobs), and Robert. Jim loved his children madly—he did everything he could to support their dreams and come to the rescue on their hardest days. Jim was grandfather to Harvey Mackenzie, who brought him immense excitement and joy. He was also a dear uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He was the best storyteller we knew—he had a way of taking the mundane and making us laugh.
Jim supported his family through his job as branch manager of Maritime Paper Products, a career that introduced him to many special friendships. In his spare time, Jim loved boil-ups in the barrens, long bike rides, and cheering on his favourite sports teams, all of which he especially enjoyed with his family. We will carry him with us in the songs that he danced to and the books that lined his walls.
Care and arrangements have been entrusted to the
Pilon Family Funeral Home, Arnprior.
Jim’s family will be hosting a small gathering at their home, 95 Rear Street, Carleton Place on Friday, March 28th from 2:00-4:00 PM.
