Obituary of Dwight Eastman

AUGUST 12, 1945 – May 16, 2025

Passed away peacefully in his 80th year with his family by his side on Friday morning, May 16, 2025.

Son of the late Gordon and Edna Eastman (nee Wilson).

Married for over 57 years to his best friend and love of his life, wife Donna (nee Hanna).

Survived by sons Dwayne (Tracy) and Darryl (Kim).

Proud grampa of Ashley (deceased), Eric, Madison, Ben, Emma Lee and Daniel.

He will be missed by brother Ron and (late Betty), sisters Reta Walls (Bruce) and Norma Baird (Dwain),

and in-laws Wayne Bradley (late Darlene), Dale Hanna (Laurie) and Dan Hanna (Vicki) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

After graduating from 3-year Business Administration program, majoring in Systems Analysis, Dwight joined the Federal Government in 1969.

He left government employment in 1980 as Chief of Operations for Statistic Canada’s Health Surveys and went home to farm.

Dwight never found a challenge he didn’t like.

He spent many years farming from mid-May to early Fall, and working as a systems consultant from late Fall to Early Spring.

The consulting work took him into numerous government Departments, Agencies and Military Bases across Canada.

Farming was the true love of Dwight’s life and he and his family built a large herd of Charolais beef cattle spread across seven farms.

He was active in a number of many farm organizations and he was very proud of his recognition as a member of the United Empire Loyalist’s Association of Canada.

Dwight entered municipal politics and spent six years as Mayor of West Carleton Township,

and after amalgamation spent 3 years as the new City of Ottawa’s first Councillor for West Carleon’s Ward 5.

He volunteered his time to many  boards and organizations through the years.

Dwight made friends wherever he went and each year spent time hunting and fishing in Northern Ontario.

The family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Aya Suzuki; the nurses and staff at the Arnprior Hospital

as well the Oncologists at both the Ottawa General and Queensway-Carleton Hospitals.

Your level of care and compassion will not be forgotten.

Dwight’s final care has been entrusted to the

Pilon Family Funeral Home in Arnprior

where visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. only.

A Funeral Service will take place in the Pilon Family Chapel on Thursday morning, May 22nd at 11 o’clock.

Private family interment at Diamond Cemetery.
