Obituary of Garry McCann

Owner and Operator of McCann’s Pub

Following a lengthy and courageous struggle, Garry passed away peacefully at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital with his sister by his side on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2025.

John Anthony Garry McCann of Arnprior was 81 years of age.

Beloved son of the late Harry and Sybil (nee Smith) McCann.

Dear brother of Jim (Nan), Mary Pulcine (Gerry) and the late Maureen Whalen (Gerard); father of Sean McCann and Allison McCann.

He is fondly remembered by his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Garry is especially remembered by his longtime, steadfast friends, his staff and patrons from his Pub, his boating buddies, his fellow athletes, business associates and a wonderful assortment of friends.

Garry was born with an innate curiosity to learn and an incredible attitude to try almost any task, from working physical jobs for the town to diamond mining in Alaska, and many others along the way.

Sales and real estate jobs followed. He saw an opportunity, which led to the development of “McCann’s Pub” in Arnprior.

He looked for the best in people and wanted to create an attractive establishment, where people could come and enjoy themselves, without having to leave town, and often leave the province. His music filled the room and he provided a wonderfully, joyful venue for many St. Patrick’s Day celebrations – a favourite day.

He trained and sustained a remarkable young staff, many of whom, remained loyal friends through to his passing.

Many patrons expressed gratitude for his timely support.

Always on a mission for improvement, in spite of deteriorating health, he was fighting for new ideas and projects.

A notable pool player, he ran the table on his last game, just weeks ago – a source of great pride.

Garry leaves a legacy of being a successful entrepreneur, of providing excellent customer service, and of gifting others with a loyal and supportive friendship.

He will be missed! ……….….AND…………. HE DID IT HIS WAY!

An “Irish Wake” will be held at Garry’s Place, 75 John Street North, Arnprior on Saturday, June 14^th from 2 to 4 p.m.
