Obituary of Bob McManus
(retired Professor – Algonquin College)
Peacefully, with family by his side at the Grove Long-Term Care Home in Arnprior on June 29, 2025, Bob passed away one day shy of his 85th birthday.
Beloved husband and best friend of June (nee Sauer) for almost 60 years.
Loved and cherished Dad of Jocelyn McManus of Arnprior and Paul McManus (Melissa) of Florida.
Special Papa of Paisley, Parkes and Porter.
Bob was the only son of the late Earl and Gertrude (nee Kobus) McManus.
Bob was a unique combination of all around athlete and intellectual.
His high school sports coach called Bob the best athlete he’s ever known.
Bob was an all-star pitcher who led the Renfrew team to the Ontario championship.
Scouted by the Boston Red Sox, he decided to apply his talent to a PHD focusing on sports psychology.
Often found with his nose buried in a book, he never stopped learning.
Bob taught at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College where the courses he developed for the school of business are still being taught today.
He also enjoyed travelling to Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa where he taught public servants.
Through coaching at the high school and college levels, he shared his passion for basketball.
He co-started a basketball development program in Kanata that continues to this day.
Bob was renowned for his sense of humour and always had a quip at the ready.
One of his favourite books, the Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, was never far away.
Above all else, Bob was a dedicated and loyal friend who loved spending time with his family.

Bob’s care and arrangements have been entrusted to the
Pilon Family Funeral Home.
A private family graveside service will be held at Malloch Road Cemetery in Arnprior where Bob will be laid to rest with his parents.
