Obituary of Gladys Barr

Gladys Muriel Barr

(nee Currie)

(November 13, 1928 – July 21, 2025)

With heavy hearts yet grateful for a journey that was lived to the fullest, the family announces that their Matriarch, Gladys Barr of Pakenham passed away peacefully at Almonte Country Haven early Monday morning, July 21, 2025. She was 96 years of age. Dearly loved mother of Stewart (Jane), Shirley, Bonnie, Bruce (Susan), Neil (Jeanne), Kevin (Natalie) and Debbie Hartwick (Travis). Forever loved and remembered by her 14 grandchildren; 21 (soon to be 22) great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Gladys was the last surviving child of the late Stuart and Rachel (nee Melanson) Currie. She was predeceased by her 2 sisters: Vera and Helen as well as her 2 brothers: Don and Elmer. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Gladys also knew that she was always “full of spunk”. Spending time with family was her number one priority. She never missed an opportunity to attend any of the children or grandchildren’s events. Whether it was sporting events, graduations, get togethers for no reason or the occasional road tour with family or friends, you could always count on Gladys to add a touch of joy and laughter to the occasion. She was generous to a fault and always filled with kindness.

She will be missed.

Final care for Gladys has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home in Arnprior. A private family graveside service will take place at the Pakenham Union Cemetery later in the week. In memory of Gladys, please consider a donation to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) or the Pakenham Curling Club Accessibility Fund.
