Obituary of Lorraine Reed
Lorraine Reed
(née Findlay)
With sadness, but with gratitude for a life well lived, the family announces that Lorraine Gertrude Reed of Ottawa passed away peacefully at home in Hazeldean Gardens, Stittsville, with the love and support of family, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She was 83.
Beloved wife of the late Lorne Reed. Proud and devoted mother of Glenn (Karen), Cheryl Mills (Alan), Shawn (Anne-Marie Roberts), and Lynda Green (Paul). Cherished grandmother of Cameron, Shannon, Tyler (Tanya), the late Brady, Owen, Finlay, Lehla, and Gavin, and adored great-grandmother of Jacob, Fergus, and Amilia.
Lorraine will be deeply missed by her siblings Doug Findlay (Joyce), Dennis Findlay (Nora), Mary Findlay (David Wagener), and Margaret Hummel. She was predeceased by her brother Hollis (Elaine). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and will be lovingly remembered by the entire Reed family with whom she shared a close and enduring bond.
Born in Shawville, Quebec, Lorraine grew up in nearby Bristol on the Findlay family farm, The Pines, with her parents, Edward and Caroline Findlay, and her five siblings. After graduating high school in 1958, she moved from the quiet countryside to Ottawa, beginning work at Computing Devices Canada, where she met Lorne. They married in 1961 and raised their family in Kinburn.
While devoted to her children, Lorraine also built a career at Racal Canada and later returned to school to further her education. After her children were grown, and she had lost Lorne (the love of her life) in 1991, she embraced new adventures with family and friends—always curious to try new things and meet new people, even though she was naturally reserved.
Lorraine leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, wisdom and know-how, and countless treasured memories.
Thank you to the warm and caring staff at Hazeldean Gardens Retirement Home for all their support over the last 3 years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home, Arnprior. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12th from 6–8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place at Pine Lodge, 6 chemin du Pine Lodge, Bristol, Quebec, on Saturday, September 13th from 1 - 4 p.m. with words of remembrance to commence at 2 p.m.
In memory of Lorraine, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be deeply appreciated by her family.
