I didn’t know Joe personally. I only knew him through his produce stand. One memory stand out for me and I believe speaks volumes about the type of person he was. I was looking for rhubarb to make my husband’s a favourite cake for Father’s Day. Having left it to the last minute , and not finding any in the store, I went to Joe’s’ stand. He did not have any rhubarb at the stand to sell. Seeing my disappointment, he said “come with me”. He took me to his home where he cut some rhubarb out of his own garden and gave it to me. He refused any payment for it. His generousity made my day! I have never forgotten that. My condolences to his family on the loss of such a fine person.

Greg and family ;
I was lucky to know Joe from a young age. He coached me briefly in juvenile hockey when I was called up from my midget team — I was just 16, playing with 18- and 19-year-olds — and Joe made me feel like I belonged. He had that gift.
A big, burly man with a gentle heart, Joe was respected on and off the ice. Many will also remember him as the friendly, dependable bouncer at local dances, keeping things light and safe for everyone.
He was well known and well liked in Arnprior — a solid, grounded man who gave back to his community in quiet, meaningful ways. My condolences to the family. Joe will be missed and remembered fondly by many. God Bless RIP Joe.

Dear Helen and family. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Joe. He was always so helpful. I remember when my Son was first starting his business Joe told him to bring his sign to put up to advertise his business. That's how Joe was. He always had a story to tell when you would stop for vegetables. A poem comes to mind when
I think of him now. A golden heart stopped beating, two hands layed to rest, it broke our hearts to lose him but GOD only takes the best. RIP Joe

Joe,
We will miss seeing your giant tomatoes growing beside your garage, buying plants from your backyard and the special taste of eating a freshly sliced tomato (with salt from the secret salt shaker) while standing in the parking lot at your stand. We will always remember your generosity, as you quietly gave free fruit and vegetables to be shared with families who had little money. Joe was a closet philanthropist and generous to a fault.
