Obituary of Mardi Coady
Margaret Teresa Coady
(Dunn)
Margaret (Mardi) Coady passed peacefully on November 23, 2025, in the presence of her loving family.
The beloved wife of the late Charles Joseph Coady, Mardi leaves behind her children: Martha (the late Bruce Barrie), Jane (Wayne Olsen and the late Richard Lafave), Clare (Paul Reid), Michael (Marja Suomela), Laurie (Anders Sodergren), John (Jane Nyman) and Lisa (Vincent Gracco), fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mardi is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hart (late Paul) and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. John Francis and Mary Helena Dunn and by the rest of her siblings and their spouses: James (Marnie), John (Marie), Philip (Irene), Arthur (Joan), Declan (Laurie), Billy, Mary, Frances (Dennis) Nolan, Martha (Don) McCarthy, Eleanor (Louis) Cavanagh and Helen (Michael) Fitzpatrick. Growing up in Almonte, Mardi was part of a close-knit family that shared a love of music and a sharp sense of humour.
Mardi was a skilled nurse, a wonderful mother, and the heart and soul of the family. After spending more than two decades raising her children, Mardi continued her service to community when she returned to nursing at Arnprior District Memorial Hospital. There she cared for patients with compassion and sensitivity. She enjoyed both the work and the camaraderie shared with her nursing colleagues. Socializing with her bridge, curling and golf groups was a highlight of her week.
Mardi earned a well-deserved reputation as a phenomenal baker. Friends and family loved her treats and especially looked forward to her Christmas tree buns. In addition to her culinary talents, as a longtime member of the Almonte quilting group, Mardi created many beautiful works. Along with knitting and sewing, she continued a family tradition of handmade Christmas stockings, hand-knit sweaters and smocked dresses for her children and grandchildren. These remain in the family as treasured mementos.
Mardi’s wish to end her days at home was fulfilled. This would not have been possible without the excellent care given to Mardi over the years by Drs. Fishman and Greenough, and without the help and support provided by Barb, Dorothy, Daniel, Janis, Phil, and the Ontario Health at Home team. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of Mardi’s caregivers.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Braeside, Ontario on November 29th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hall. Friends and family may pay respects between 10:15 and 10:45 in the Church foyer or at the reception. Private burial to follow.
In memory of Mardi, a donation to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation would be appreciated by her family.
