Obituary of Verna Ryan

With family by her side, Verna Cecilia Ryan (nee Moloughney) passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, at the age of 86. She was the beloved wife of the late Emmett Ryan, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.

Verna was a devoted and loving mother to Jennifer Richardson (Kevin) and Matthew Ryan (Christa), and a proud and adoring grandmother to her five grandchildren: Katie, Ryan, Alyssa, Ellie, and Isla. She cherished each of them deeply and took great joy in teaching and nurturing them.

Lovingly remembered by her sister Elaine Godfrey (late Tim). She was predeceased by her sisters Eleanor McEvoy (late Phil) and Ruth Brown (Leo). Her sisters were her lifelong companions and source of joy. Verna is also fondly remembered by the extended Moloughney and Ryan families, and will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Verna was the daughter of Irene and Daniel Moloughney and was raised on the family dairy farm outside of Manotick, Ontario. She began her teaching career at the age of eighteen, launching a lifelong passion for education. Verna spent many years as an elementary school teacher and always held a special place in her heart for children.

Verna enjoyed a wide range of interests, including gardening, quilting, baking, line dancing, playing bridge, and volunteering. She was strongly committed to her faith. Verna fully embraced her community in Arnprior, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She was hardworking, generous, loving, welcoming, delightfully a bit silly, and brought a joy and zest for life to all her endeavours.

Our mother lived life to the fullest. We were truly blessed by her guidance, strength, and selfless devotion to family. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, friendship, and joy that will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Granite Ridge Care Community for their compassionate care.
