Obituary of Bernie Lynn

Bernard “Bernie” Gerald Lynn
1932-2026

It is with deep sadness and immense gratitude for a well lived life that our family announces the passing of Bernie Lynn on April 4th, 2026.

Bernie was a man of unwavering faith that guided him throughout his almost 94 years of life.

He was loved and cherished by his wife of 37 years, Geraldine Barbara (nee Lesk,  formerly Fremont) and the late Betty Mae (nee Miller, 1986).

He will be dearly missed by his children: Bonnie Rand, Richard (June), Daniel (Michelle), and Kimberley Lynn.

Bernie is also survived by his stepdaughter Karen (Mark) Hammell, and stepson, John (Heidi) Fremont.

He was the beloved son of the late Edward John and Mary Agnes (“Mamie”) Lynn. Predeceased by his brothers, Michael (Mick) and Edward (late Anneliese) as well as his sister, Mary Lynn.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Pernu (Edward) and will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Diana Reny, and her husband John.

Bernie will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Elizabeth Jean Rand, Sheri Lee Matte (Steve), Amanda Lynn (Stefan Lacoste), Kacie Lynn, Kayla Hersey, Shanna Lynn, Jennifer Nicholls (Brett), Christopher Stolat (Amanda), as well as 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

Also survived by 3 step-grandchildren and 2 great step-grandchildren.

A proud and dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Air Force (now the Armed Forces).

Bernie joined in 1954. He began his training in Aylmer, Ontario, before being posted to Goose Bay, Labrador, and then to Bagotville.

His service took him to RCAF Station Rockcliffe, and Metz, France, where he served until 1960.

Upon returning to Canada, he served in Winnipeg, Kingston, Ottawa and later to Winnipeg once again until his retirement in September 1980, when his wife Betty became ill.

After retiring, Bernie returned to the Ottawa Valley, where he drove a school bus for Renfrew County for 9 years then to security at BASF for three years.

In his second retirement, Bernie rediscovered his love for golf, pool, and travel.

He was a proud lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 174 and the Knights of Columbus Council 2082, where he held many offices.

His dedication to volunteerism and his community is reflected in the considerable number of rewards received over the last 40 years of service to the community.

Most everyone will remember him for his outgoing nature, quick wit, and incredible sense of humour.

Many will remember him as Santa Claus and in the many roles he played around the community, always bringing joy to others.

He was never without a wave, a warm hello, or a genuine smile—a natural greeter at heart who made everyone feel seen and welcome.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Bonnechere Manor for their loving care and support during Bernie’s time there.

We couldn’t have wished for a better place for our dear Bernie to be during his final days.

We love and appreciate everything they did for him and his loved ones, we will be forever grateful.

Bernie’s final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the
