Samuel "Sam" Kozack

With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to Dad at the Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew on Monday evening, June 1, 2026.

Dad passed away while having been surrounded by his family and close friends all week. He was 96 years old.

Samuel "Sam" was predeceased by his wife Maria in 2021 and eldest son Darwin in 2022.

He is survived by his son James Kozack (Lisa) and daughter Peggy Hurjui (Anton).

Predeceased by his parents Daniel and Anna Kozack; brothers John and Billy Kozack, and sisters Mary Grebinsky, Polly Powroznik, Tossie Venn and Eva Swanson.

Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sam’s unshakable faith in the Bible is what helped him to endure life's challenges, helping him remain calm and keep smiling no matter what lay ahead.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pinard for Dad’s challenging care over the past 6 years and for being present with us right to the end.

Thanks is also extended to the amazing staff at Bonnechere Manor for providing Dad with not only his necessary care but going above and beyond giving him the empathy and comfort needed during his darkest days with failing health.

The staff always greeted him with either a smile, a hug, or "Hi Sam" and he always responded with a smile.

Once palliative, they made sure Dad was always comfortable and treated with dignity while respecting our wishes as a family.
