Obituary of Evelyn Baker

Evelyn Gerd Baker (nee Montclair), born in Montreal, beloved wife of the late Frank Leslie Baker, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 91 years of age.

Evelyn and Frank were married for 56 years and made their home in Dorval, Quebec.

Much loved mother, and greatly missed by Susan Myers (Dan), Karen Zwaan (Jan) and Janet Baker (the late Brian Eric Crowley).

Proud Grandmother (Mormor) of Devon and Kirsten, Roger, Derek (Sharon) and Jeffrey, and Andrea (Alex) and Ian.

Proud Great Grandmother (Bestemor) to Riker, Lily, Ivy and Hannah.

Fondly remembered and loved by her sister, Ruth Roberts and her 5 nieces, family in England, as well as treasured relatives in Norway. She will be missed by wonderful friends and neighbours in Dorval, Quebec as well as her new friends in White Lake.

For the last 5 years, Evelyn resided in White Lake, Ontario with her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jan.

As a young girl while visiting family in Norway, Evelyn, her sister Ruth and mother, Gudny (nee Heggen), were very lucky to be able to leave on one of the last ships, to return home to her father Niels Montclair in Montreal, when Norway was invaded in the early stages of the 2nd World War.

Evelyn was really fond of attending the Norwegian Seaman’s Church in Montreal, socializing while easily conversing in the Norwegian language, and being able to enjoy her favourites such as Gjetost cheese, Fiskeboller, Lefse, and the delicious pastries, which she always created for family during the Christmas Season.

Evelyn enjoyed part-time work as an Administrative Assistant at various local companies on the West Island of Montreal aside from devoting her time to raising her family.

Evelyn’s involvement in the community was appreciated by many. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Strathmore United Church, a U.C.W. active member, was a Girl Guide leader, participated in the Red Hat Society, enthusiastic participant of coffee groups and craft groups in Dorval, bus travel trips with the Dorval Seniors Group, loved knitting and crocheting sweaters, hats and blankets as gifts for grand children and great grand children, or as donations.

Evelyn loved camping and canoeing adventures with Frank and extended family throughout Canada and Eastern United States, and visiting family in Europe.

Her care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home, Arnprior. If you would like to share a memory below, the family would greatly appreciate it.
