In hospital, Arnprior while surrounded by family on Saturday morning, December 18th, 2010. Paul Armand Bertrand; a lifelong resident of Braeside at the age of 92 years. Dear son of the late Theophile Bertrand and the late Elizabeth Rose Clouthier. Predeceased by his loving wife, Violet May Booth (August 20, 2007). Paul and Violet were married for over 67 years. Dearly loved father of Wayne (Gayle) and Dennis (Jeannette). Cherished grandfather of 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. Predeceased by brothers: Edward, Joseph "Joe", Jules, Marcel, John and Lionel as well as sisters: Lucie Schnob, Adrienne Gibeault, Jacqueline McAndrews and Janette Bertrand. Paul served several years in the Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment before the Second World War. He enlisted at Petawawa in 1939 and was transferred to the Governor General's Footguards in 1940. He landed in France at Beny-sur-mer shortly after "D" Day, 1944. His group was the 21st Canadian Armoured Regiment (Tank) of the Fourth Canadian Division. They left for England on the "Louis Pasteur" in September of 1942. Paul was awarded the "Efficiency Service Medal" in Brighton, England in 1943. Paul became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 174, Arnprior in 1947 and served in every position except Sgt-at-Arms. In recognition of his service, he was made Honorary Sgt-at-Arms on November 11, 2009. Paul served as Deputy Zone Commander and then Zone Commander G-6. He was also awarded the Legion Meritorious Service Medal. Family and friends are invited to the Pilon Family Funeral Home, 50 John Street North, Arnprior for visitation on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:15. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John Chrysostom Church, Arnprior on Tuesday afternoon, December 21st at 1 o'clock. Interment Malloch Road Cemetery. For those wishing, a donation made to the Arnprior Hospital Partners in Caring Foundation would be appreciated by the Bertrand families. Legion Tribute Service Monday evening at 6:45 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
