I am a fellow graduate of the sociology department of 1980. Catherine was in many of of my classes. While I have not seen her since 1980, I remember her as very friendly, and her non-stop smile. My condolences to the family.

Hi there,
I read with sadness in the Queen's Alumni Review about the passing of your mom in April. I had not thought of her for many years as we were friends only briefly in our twenties when we both worked as waitresses at Crock and Block in Kingston (corner of Nelson and Princess). I was in my early twenties, had finished my BA at Queen's and not sure what to do with the rest of my life. Your mom was the person who told me that being a librarian was a masters degree that a person could go to school for in the break room at Crock and Block. And, because of that simple and supportive conversation when her words resonated with me and she helped me find my way, I went to UofT in my twenties, got my library science degree and I found my life's work as a children's librarian with the Toronto Public Library where I ran a literacy program to help children from high needs areas in that city learn to read. I am retired from the library after 32 years but I often think how that conversation changed my life.
I lost my own mother when I was in my twenties so I know how hard it is and I wish you all the best in the upcoming months with Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Kate's death. At the start of our careers, Kate and I worked together organizing a conference focussed on community health and social services. Kate was an exceptionally kind,collaborative and supportive colleague. Over the years I often thought of her and wished we kept in touch. How sad for her family to lose her too soon. My condolences for your loss, especially for her two daughters who I imagine she adored.

Our condolences to all the family and deepest sympathy to Kate's daughters Emma and Andi. We are very sorry we were not able to attend the funeral today but we are thinking of you all and the good times we had with Kate and family.
We have many fond memories of Kate at Red Horse Lake. She was always a very gentle, considerate lady with a big heart and a great friend. We have very special memories of family hockey games on the lake, making maple syrup in the spring and countless dinners together.

I am saddened to hear this news. While I had lost touch with Kate over the years, I have many fond memories from high school, university and our young adult lives. It was Kate's invitation for a weekend in Kingston that first introduced me to Queen's where I later joined her in studies and then ironically returned to spend most of my career here. My deepest condolences to her daughters and sisters, and all those who grieve her loss. May you hold the rich legacy of her love and her laughter in your memories, actions and family traditions. All we are given is time. Hers, and yours with her, was far too short.

My heart felt condolences to Emma, Andi and the rest of the family. I was very saddened by the news of her passing.
I first met Kate 30 years ago when we were all at the beginning of our careers. It was an exciting, fun and stimulating time of growth and promise. To Kate's Family, please accept my sincere condolences on Kate's passing. I first met Kate at Shout Sisters, a weekly singing group which brought joy and laughter to us all. In the cold weather, I used to drive her and we had many good discussions and laughs. As our friendship developed, I appreciated more and more Kate's intelligence, creativity and true love for her daughters and Zoe of course. My last memory of her was at an Academy Awards night held just last month where Kate, in her upscale style arrived with a very creative fascinator on top of her head. We all had a good laugh. I am so saddened by her loss. She will be missed.

So sad to hear the news of Kate's passing. I met Kate through a contract with the Merrickville Community Health Centre and was always impressed by her knowledge of the sector and the difference she made through her work. I loved Kate's spirit and positivity. We got lost on the road to Caledon one day due to a construction detour - and had some good laughs. I had the pleasure of touring two of Kate's homes and the cottage - she had a great eye for design and decorating - and created beautiful living spaces for her family.

As friend of Kate's for over 30 years, her passing is heartbreaking. But we draw on the memories of Kate in happy times, sharing her warmth and humour. Our travels were fun and planning for them, and remembering events got us through the Ottawa winters. She loved her daughters, Emma and Andi, and was so proud of them and happy for them and the lives they had built. Kate will remain in our hearts.
