So sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She and my late mum, June Freeman, were friends at Island View, and it was also great to see Betty and spend time with her...she always gave me a smile and a hug!

Son and Daughter posted a condolence
Friday, June 2, 2017
Our mom Betty,
A proud and dignified woman
that dressed with passion and shared a love for family and friends.
A social compassionate person
who often went out of her way to help others.
A testament to her vocal nature, a straight forward style, sometimes difficult to hear, yet endeared many lives here today, and so many friendships from Canada to the USA.
Mom was born in 1930 an era of hard times of a depression.
She grew up in the Code family of Arnprior,
a wonderful large family, her father Roy, mother Dorothy,
seven sisters and two brothers.
All had families that enriched each others lives for years to come.
1955 at age 25
Betty fell in love and married her friend and soul-mate Marcel Demers.
She proudly shared stories of love about this Frenchman and his ‘special forces’ training with the Montreal military Van Due’s. Military lifestyle allowed for moves across Canada.
Ottawa, Regina, Montreal then back to Ottawa.
By 1962 they were raising son Michael and Daughter Penny.
1957 Grandma Dorothy passed away early,
yet shared her strong family and work ethic with mom.
1962 Grandpa Roy passed
had taught mom the love of driving and strength of independence.
Both grandparents supported and loved their daughter’s choice of husband.
Through changing times,
Betty and Marcel were strong loving parents and managed wonderfully. We remember, never hearing them argue.
Mom had traditional values like cooking and caring for the children.
Her love for numbers enhanced a career in accounting.
Both worked hard and they built a family cottage homestead for 15 years of fun for kids and friends.
They taught us the joys and love for nature and animals,
a respect for family and friends,
to work hard and share the chores,
to save to buy things and value spiritual morals.
We remember family Christmas dinners, Easter hunts, birthday cakes, Halloween costumes, school fights, summer sports,
fishing and camping, cousin’s fun and squabbles,
family weddings, golf tournaments and spousal quarrels.
Remember the fun of changing times from schooling to working to raising a family to parents retirement.
Betty and Marcel enjoyed 12 winters as snowbirds in Florida playing golf.
They celebrated making friends and sharing with family.
They celebrated the birth of great grandchildren.
Dad departed in 2011 now mom 6 years later.
She never forgot her life’s love.
Their last changing years
were tackled with medical tears and laughter,
love and compassion of service,
respect and honor all acquired from family.
So today join a sister and brother,
With prayers of joy and embrace forever love of family,
we celebrate and remember Marcel and Betty are loved
together again in spirit and love.
Thank you
Penny and Michael Demers
