We have greatly admired Marianne for, among other things, her indomitable spirit. Although confronted by many obstacles, set-backs and crises, she invariably maintained her up-beat and cheerful attitude She was generous and very thoughtful. Whether dealing with a little bird, a friend or an acquaintance, she always managed to be caring and kind. Her sense of humour enabled her to overcome much and made her good company. We loved her very much and continue to do so. We also wish to express our sympathy to her family and other friends, particularly Suzie.

Dear Susie and family, we are so sad to hear the passing of Marianne, our "Ummi", as she likes us to call her. We admired her generosity, bravery and courage. She fought her illness with a strong sense of dignity until the end. This fall, she did not call for our daughter's birthday. She did this every year since we met her. Anya's birthday is two days before hers. We guessed her condition was not allowing it. May god open the doors of paradise to her. Mustapha and Malika.
