Adele Ryan

Obituary of Adele Ryan

September 2, 1940 – March 14, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunt Adele at the age of 83.

Adele was born in Pakenham, Ontario to the late William and Carmel Ryan (nee Stanton). She had five sisters, the late Mary Stanton (late Ritchie), the late Alice McGrath (late Desmond), the late Rita Ryan, Rosaleen Anderson (late Jack) of Vancouver, and Eleanor Lecours (Peter) and four brothers, the late Bill (Doreen & late Lois), the late Gervais (late Eleanor), Patrick (Madeleine), and the late Emmett (Verna). She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews as well as her dear friend John Donnelly and his daughter Victoria of Toronto.

Adele had a long professional career in the federal government for 35 years while also completing her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto. Adele had a devoted relationship with all her family and friends both in Toronto and Ottawa. She was a woman of strong faith and had a vibrant and active life with a strong social circle enjoying films, particularly TIFF, shows, bridge and travel. Most of all she loved spending time with her large extended family and many friends singing and dancing with whoever would join in.

Adele truly brightened so many lives, with her zest for life and whimsical style. She was interested in and involved herself in the lives of so many people with optimism and love both in good times and in bad. Adele never lost her thirst for learning and had a deep curiosity about the world that she satisfied with travel, reading, taking courses and long conversations. We are so grateful for what she brought to all our lives. She was a beautiful human being, and we will miss her dearly.

Thank you to all her friends, nieces and nephews who assisted with her care over the past two months as well as to all the health care teams in Toronto and Ottawa, and particularly the care of the staff at Carleton Place Terrace. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Hospice Care Ottawa would be appreciated.

At Adele’s request there will not be a visitation.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 18th at St. Peter Celestine Church in Pakenham at 1pm followed by a celebration of life in the Stewart Community Centre in Pakenham.

Arrangements entrusted to the Whelan Funeral Home. Tel. 613.233-1488
