Mary Sue..my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I always remember with great fondness and appreciation the kindness you and Dan opened your home near King City to so many of us who needed guidance. His strong, gentle manner was only a small portion of his nobility.

Dan McCarthy, the warm and gentle man who gave the gift of amazing song at our wedding, the friendly face my very young children tried to negotiate an advance deal with to buy the house in King before anyone else might, the intelligent and thoughtful friend who so graciously and often helped guide and open doors for me at work. A special person, made all the more exceptional for the welcome he and MarySue always had for our us as extended family. He will be missed by so very many for so very many moments. Our thoughts and wishes are with you at this time and may the wealth of your memories together live on in your hearts and bring you peace. My heartfelt condolences to you Mary Sue and family on losing Dan. He was a true gentleman and leader. I very much enjoyed working with him and feel privileged to have been on his team both when he led the CBC-TV Children's department and later while he was Director of Canadian Sesame Street.

I remember Uncle Dan as a kind and generous man with the most wonderful singing voice. He sang at the funerals of both my parents while the musically gifted Marta accompanied him on organ or piano Wish I had musical talent. What a fine send off for my parents. I have no doubt he is singing in heaven right now with the angels. Dan had the warmest of smilesand was always ready to talk to his nieces and nephews. He had a special place in my mother's (his sister Alice's heart as she took care of him when he was young). She used to talk to me about him and his acting and singingabilities. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Dan.

I didn't know Daniel McCarthy although I have known his son Dan and his family for a few years now. It seems to me that Mr. McCarthy was a great man who lived his life to the fullest. I am especially grateful to him for his work at CBC, having enjoyed Canadian Sesame Street with my own family when I was a child. My condolences and sympathies to the whole family.

I remember my Uncle Dan as being a soft-spoken, very kind person.
Three specific events stand out in my mind. One is the time he and Mary Sue held the cousins by the dozens party at their place in King city. What a terrific idea. I still remember all of us, and dozens was not overstatement, posing for photographs by the fireplace. What an undertaking that was for Dan and Mary Sue.
The second memory is of the time my Uncle Dan helped us move out of our apartment at High Park. He took the whole day patiently helping us carry carload after carload of furniture from my High Park Avenue apartment to our place in Richmond Hill. I remember being so taken with this act of kindness.
And I remember how my late mother, Alice Kirby, respected and loved her brother Dan. I know why. He was a terrific and gentle man.
"To live, to love, to learn and to leave a legacy" My Uncle Dan did it all.
May his soul rest in peace
