So troops,every Remembrance Day will be a special one for me. Besides remembering the men and women who went before me, along with the ones that will go after me, I will be remembering a good friend of mine Sgt.Neil Paquette. We lost Neil back in June of 2014 to an unfortunate car accident. I met Neil in the Army back in 2004, we shared a room in the shacks, worked, drank, and served together in Afghanistan in 2005. Neil was a larger than life individual, always smiling and the kind of friend and soldier that you wanted around. Anyone who has served in a small unit environment in the CF or any Army for that matter, knows a "Neil", brawny, great sense of humor and the guy that always brings a smile to your face, no matter what the conditions are.
Neil is survived by his beautiful wife and his two wonderful children, along with his family and friends. We miss Neil everyday, and in his short time here, he certainly accomplished more than I ever did.
Neil, brother, as promised I will never forget you,we remember you and your family. and thank you for your service to this country.

The first I met Neil was at a restaurant in Dartmouth called "It's all Greek to me" about four years ago. It was a Christmas dinner party for the staff of Schaefer Dental lab. My wife Terri was an employee and co-worker of Joan's (Neil's mom) at the time. Anyway, I remember meeting Neil in the parking lot as we all arrived at the same time. I remember thinking to myself how nice it was that he was accompanying his mom to the party. We were introduced to each other then made our way into the restaurant. Once inside, we sat down and I ended up sitting next to Neil. I have to admit that I thought to myself "uh oh, I don't really know this guy, what the heck are we going to talk about?!" But my fears were quickly put aside because the conversation flowed effortlessly. I can't remember exactly what we talked about (probably a bit about computers and technology, and about his studies at the time) but I remember having the feeling like I was talking to an old friend. He had a great sense of humor and there was a kindness in his eyes when he smiled. He was very easy going and that helped me to relax and really enjoy the evening. From what I was told by Joan, he was that way with everyone he met. I wish I could have had the opportunity to have known him better. From all of the things that I've heard, he was a very special guy. From all of us (Kevin, Terri & Sadie) we are deeply sorry for your loss.

My memories of Neil go way back when he was just over 1 year old. His Mom Joan and I took our children to the beach. One weekend we had Joan and Marcel's camper, in the morning while having breakfast outside Neilie seemed to pick that time to give us a lingering aroma.....( diaper change). Another vacation time Joan, myself and the kids rented a condo in Hubbards which had a pool. One night Neilie said " Mom come see, girls are jumping in the pool with no clothes on" he was laughing and kept going to the window. They were wonderful, fun times but, time moves on and Neil grew up to be a fine young man, Husband and Father. So very proud of you. Job well done Neilie P! We know you are now in the arms of Jesus. Dear Karen, Abby, Jack, & family I have not stopped thinking about you since I heard the horrible news. I was honoured to have known and worked with Neil. He was such a proud husband and father. Between discussing wedding stuff on one course as we all got married around the same time, or discussing the trials and tribulations of having an almost 2 yr old while on our 6As, it was very apparent how important you were to him and how much he loved you.
