I knew terry from work, from trips and from being a great friend. When we first met I knew he was a special guy, one of a kind. He will be deeply missed by so many including me. Please accept my thoughts and prayers and know that Terry is in a much better place, having a great time up there. I'm sure many have raised a beer in rememberance of Terry, as will I. Cheers Terry! You will never be forgotten.

This is very sad news. I'd like to express sincere condolences to Terry's family on his passing. Terry and I met in residence at Carleton in the early 80s. I remember him fondly as a warm, kind and generous soul. As is too often the case with university friends we lost touch over the years, but I've never forgotten Terry. Terry was one of the really good guys, full of fun, with a gentle disposition. He made me laugh a lot. May you rest in peace Terry. We will meet again sometime. Frank Smith

Dear Ryan Family, It has been many years since I was one of Terry's floormates in residence at Carleton. However, I treasure the memories of the people I met and the events of my university days, and Terry was one of those people I'll remember most. Though our meetings since then were infrequent, we always managed to pick up as if our previous encounter had only been the day before. Please accept my condolences upon the passing of someone who we'll all miss.

So many memories, cherished and fondly remembered, of a high school classmate, a scrappy hockey player and good friend. Terry, I remember driving a crew of classmates all over Eastern Ontario one spring. We cheered you on loudly...all the way to St. Isidore! You could be found wherever there was a social occasion and when it wasn't a social occasion you made it one. (Poor Mr. Smith in English class.) It is clearly evident by the tributes written that your misfortune did not dampen your spirit or temper your enthusiasm for life. I wish you well my friend and extend my condolences to the family and friends who are left to mourn.

I met Terry about nine years ago during my first visit to the R.O.Pickard Environmental Centre. Terry was a wealth of information and we helped each other with different projects over the years. I always made a point to drop in and visit him whenever I had the chance. Terry was a caring and gentle soul who always seemed to have time for a chat and a chuckle with a friend. He was a good man and my life is richer for having known him. I a truly saddened by his departure and I will miss his kind words and generous smile. I give my sincere condolences to Terry

Dear Terry's Family & Friends, I knew Terry as a upbeat, engaged and funny man at the R.O. Pickard Environmental Centre (ROPEC). As one of the City's lawyers, I don't work at the sewage treatment plant - but as a client group - I try to visit at least twice a month. It was there where I met Terry. I feel privileged to have known Terry for nearly 7 years. Often we would wait together at the end of the day - he for his Para Transpo ride and I for my taxi - and we would catch up on the latest goings-on at ROPEC. Beyond our frequent chats, as a recovering workaholic, I definitely admired Terry for his ability to plan and actually take some great vacations! I am saddened by his sudden departure. He had an open heart, lively and playful spirit that will be much missed. Hopefully, his memory will continue to serve as an inspiration and a comfort. My sincere condolences for your loss, Jennifer Jackson

My thoughts will be with all of the Ryan family on Monday as you say your final goodbyes to Terry. I met Terry in 1990 while living at 475 Laurier. We shared some Saturday morning breakfasts at Minto Place. I found him to be a very courageous young man who was an inspiration to me. I knew him to be cheerful and hard working and his condition did not hinder his commitment to his work or his sense of humour. I moved after 1 year and while I never saw him again I think of him often and am saddened by his passing. My condolences. Mary

I want to express my deepest sympathies to the Ryans for their loss. The twinkle in Terry's eye, his quick humor and frequent laugh are what I'll carry with me for the rest of my life. During our time at Carleton he was often a source of comfort and joy for me and he will be missed. One of my favourite memories of Terry is how he would greet me in the morning when we lived as Henrys at Glengarry residence at Carleton. I would look forward to seeing him because he would always have a new and hilarious way of saying hello. He sensed others awkwardness towards his disability and would make them feel at ease with lines like, "Hey, want to buy a pair of shoes off me, never been used?" or "I cancelled my dancing lesson, let's go for a beer."

Oh, Terry, how can you be gone? How many time I would see you zooming down Laurier Avenue. I would shout out the car window, "Hey, handsome!", and looking back would see that familiar crooked smile acknowledging me. I'll never forget one St. Patrick's Day at a pub on the market when you went on stage and recited an impromptu poem that had everyone holding their bellies laughing. What about the Saturday mornings when we got you up... You wouldn't say a word until after you were showered and dressed, and we did everything we could think of to make you laugh before that. Occasionally you'd crack and you'd dip your head to hide the smile. I miss you already. My deepest condolences to the Ryan family.

I was so saddened when my Ottawa friends let me know that Terry had passed away. I think that I was Terry's first supervisor in the legal department at the Region and I remember him as a remarkably funny young man and a good educator. I remember one particular time when we had a baby shower for a colleague at our house and Terry attended. He was met by our, then, 6 year old son who was extremely curious about Terry's wheel chair. Terry told him this very funny and completely ridiculous story that included, among other things, a detailed account of a "popping wheelie" international wheelchair competition that Terry had been in. Our son Matthew believed every word. Terry opened the eyes of our young son in a way that was both funny and instructive. He made a lasting impression on me and my family and I will always remember him with great fondness. Judy Wilson

I met Terry when I started at ROPEC about 21/2 years ago and had become his "water" girl. Every morning around 9:00 a.m. I'd go down to his office and plug in the kettle. We would chat about movies, our weekends, all sorts of stuff while waiting for the water to boil. Terry was not a coworker to me but my friend and I'll always remember his smile and his sense of humour. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ryan family.
