From a relative in Scotland,I wanted to say belatedly that I am sorry to read of Johns death. My mother, anne doig, had told me about Johns work, his wife Alison and her father John. This season brings many memories so thinking of you all, from Joan in edinburgh.

We were all very saddened to learn of John's passing. He was a gentleman and a role model, a combination of politeness and humility with integrity and determination in defence his deeply held values. It was a privilege to work for and with him and he will be sorely missed. Alan Bowker

Heather and I were reminiscing last week about various events and one of them was the death of our son and brother David. This of course led to our joint holiday in Spain in 1967. As I recall you both were wonderful in helping us to over come our intense grief. On behalf of Liz and Heather I would like to offer you our sincere condolences for the loss of a wonderful husband and father. yours sincerely Andy Fulton.

Dear Alison, First, our deepest sympathy to you and the family. May you all find some comfort in the assurance that we are with you in spirit. Obituaries seldom encapsulate in a few words the essence of a person. John's did. He was a kind and gentle man. His friends and society generally need more like him. We didn't have all that many years together in the foreign service, but we shared an experience of and love for a piece of Ontario that has kept you and John fondly in our thoughts over the years. That will continue. Art and Mel

My deepest condolences to the Sharpe family. It is with sadness that I read the notice that John has passed away. I worked for John at Foreign Affairs and International Trade during his tenure with this department. John was a wonderful person, I enjoyed speaking to him immensely. Even after he had retired, I would bump into him in the lobby of the Pearson building and he always had a huge smile and wanted to know how things were going. I will always have fond memories of John. Sincerely, June Preston-Laurin

Dear Alison and family, We wish to offer our most sincere sympathy in your loss of John. You will miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. He was a great guy and a true foreign service professional who worked diligently many years ago in the establishment of the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers Association (PAFSO) and served as its first President. We also remember fondly our time in London together in the 1970s. He will be missed by many who knew him in the Retired Heads of Mission Association and by others.

Dear Mrs. Sharpe and family, Our sincere sympathy to all of you on the passing of Mr. Sharpe. He was such a gentleman, one of the old kind, who tipped his hat and held doors open for others, always with a smile. He loved his family, his life, and bravely faced his illness. We so enjoyed him when he came into the Hearing Aid Centre and missed him when he moved to Renfrew, keeping up with him through your news, Mrs. Sharpe. I moved away but I know I can voice Amy's and Peter's thoughts also. May God bless you all as you move forward with lovely memories of a great man and the love you all shared. Sincerely Frederica & Jon Webb

Look Sharpe I see a man before me with his life in history I feel a man beside me as the journey continues I sense a greater good than can be imagined I know the higher way is our common ground I had many a talk with brother John The tall intellectually activated soul force The recovery gained and fellowship maintained And he fearing Irish blarney at his door Would take everything in, but with a grain And a lovely grin of deep understanding This is a man who lost himself in exploration Who fell to his knees before the great spirit And turned it all over to that which created us all The sadness is there along with the joy Having met the man and stood beside him proud I repair to the open door that freedom brings Happy to have shared such a lovely friendship With such a sweet and loving, funny man.
