I am saddened by the recent news of Angela's passing. I have so many fond memories of the time we spent together so many years ago. Angela was my mentor, my inspiration and most of all my friend. As a 13 year old with hopes of swimming in the '76 Olympics Angela realized my dream. She spent countless hours helping me train and qualify. She knew what it took and helped me learn that only hard work would help me realize that dream. She laughed with me when I won and cried with me when I lost. She truly knew how I felt and was a genuine friend. I will forever cherish those memories of my times with Angela. I hope that she is at peace now and I am sure that she is up there with a whole new team and teaching them how to be winners. You will be missed deeply by your family and friends. Peace be with you.

I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Angela on Sunday. I will always remember Angela as not only a dedicated athlete and teamate but more importantly such a wonderful person to be around. Our teams were not complete without Angela's positive personality and as someone you could always rely upon. Her perpetual grin and infectious giggle would lighten up the toughest workouts and I will always cherish those memories in my heart. Thank you, Angela I cannot imagine how great a loss it will be to her family as she truly is irreplacable. My sincerest sympathies and heartfelt condolensces to all of those who were touched by her charm Elaine Tanner

It has been many years since we drove around Burlington after classes with Angela behind the wheel of the volvo and yet, those memories of her and our chatter remain with me still. Ange was a wonderful friend whose sense of fun and laughter infected each of us. Even as teenagers we recognized that she was an extraordinary gal with so much talent, so sweet and yet, so modest. I will always be grateful for the friendship we shared. My deepest condolances to her dear family at this very sad time.

Dear Leigh and Family, we cannot express our deep sympathy for your terrible loss. Hopefully, thinking of all the great accomplishments your Mum made in her short time will help ease the sadness a little. We are thinking of you during this difficult time and just remember your Mum is now at peace and watching over all of you. Lots of Love and Hugs, Rick, Abbey and Cynthia.

Like so many others I am deeply saddened to hear of Angela’s death. I swam competitively from 1966 to 1972 with the Ottawa Kingfish. Together with Marion Lay and Elaine Tanner, Angela was both an idol and a role model for everything that swimming had to offer a young teen. I have a vivid memory from September of 1970 – attending a swimming meet hosted by the (then) Bayshore Barracudas. Angela presented medals as the meet wrapped up, and my prayers were answered that my event was one that she presented for. I remember saying to her that I was happy to be receiving a medal, but even happier that it was coming from her. She smiled. I still have that medal tucked away in a safe place. I think it’s time to dig it out and celebrate that memory with a glass of wine and a toast. Here’s to you Angela. And to your family, my heartfelt sympathy. I hope that this present sadness may soon be eclipsed by fond memories. Don Graves

During our High School years at MMR, I had the very great fortune to have been able to spend time with Angela. Because she had little or no time for "dating" we only found the rare moment to talk. I remember and cherish the memory of those moments and have never forgotten her spirit, dedication and drive. Please accept my condolences and know that she will forever be remembered by people outside immediate family not only as a famous swimmer but as a wonderful person. Chris Lynch Burlington, Ontario
