My deepest sympathies to Mr. & Mrs. MacLaren, Tammy, Stephanie, Mitchell, Audrey, Virginia, Maria, Frances, Tina and family. Rick lived the words he wrote on his Facebook: "Each day is a gift, not a given right! Lighten up and enjoy!". His smile was contagious and his positive outlook on life would make you change your attitude (or at least try). He was always there as a friend and coworker at Drytex and at AstenJohnson. Rick, having met your family today, I saw that they are as warm and friendly as you. You will be missed by all those whose life you have touched. May you rest in peace in your new home and may your smile and love continue to live in the lives of your family and friends.

I was saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I had just recently added him to my Facebook but I am sorry I never actually chatted to him. My condolences to all. He will be missed. I have great memories of him during my high school years. He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humour. He could always be counted on to help someone out. You are in my prayers Leanne Parsons Roth

Please accept my deepest sympathy. I only knew Rick for a short time, but it was long enough to know how generous and kind-hearted he was. He taught me a lot, always with a smile on his face.

Please accept my condolences. Rick was a co-worker for many years, and one of the truly good people in my world. I admired his sincerity, sensitivity, dedication and caring for others. I was privileged to call Rick my friend, and am very proud that he sometimes referred to me as his “Mom at work”. I am a better person for having known Rick, and will miss him. My sympathies go out to the family and friends of this fine man who has been lost too soon.

Condolences from the O'Hara's - Rick will be greatly missed. His passing is a shock - his life far too short. We'll always remember good times camping and laughing.

I would like to send condolences from Rhonda, Vincent, Neil, Isaac and myself. I basically knew Rick from our time together at the Rink. He volunteered as a coach for Neil and it was appreciated. He was always very friendly and loved to watch the kids, see them excel and have a smile on their faces on and off the ice. He will be missed. Mark Perreault

I am so sorry and shocked to hear that Rick has passed away. We haven't been in touch for years but he is fondly remembered. My husband and I both knew Rick separately when we were young, he was a mutual friend before we even met. He will be fondly remembered, and we express our sorrows to his family.

Some things and events are too awful for words. I am saddened to hear of this sudden and tragic loss. Please accept my sincere sympathy on Rick's sudden passing. No doubt tears don't hurt like the ache does. I hope you can find strength and comfort in the people around you, all of whom have been touched by Rick's kindness and all of whom loved him.

Sending along my deepest condolence to the MacLaren family. I am a co-worker of Rick's and have known him for 3 1/2 years. I'm a Newfie and we would often chat in the lunchroom about his recent trip to Newfoundland and what a great visit he had. He was such a great guy and I will certainly miss chatting with him and seeing his forever smiling face around the building.

My condolences to the MacLaren family, Stephanie & Mitchell and Tammy and all of Rick's friends too numerous to mention. My heart broke in two when I heard of Rick's passing. He was a very dear friend to me from high school to now and could make me laugh and smile and feel better with his gentle nature. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
