I have such fond memories of Aunt Shirley. I remember coming to Arnprior to visit gramma and grampa Hyland. Coming from the big city of Toronto, I was always amazed at how quaint things were in Arnprior. I loved the look of the streets and homes. I always visited "quickly" with my grand-parents because I was anxious to run the few blocks over to Aunt Shirley and Uncle Garry's home. Aunt Shirley was "always" so welcoming and allowed Julie, Jill and I to play around the yard and house for hours on end. She always gave us little snacks and included us in whatever was going on around the house that day. Children know when adults like them and I always felt like Aunt Shirley was pleased to see me. I always dreaded the inevitable phone call from my mom telling me I had to return to gramma and grampa's place. Aunt Shirley was such a fine person and I'm only sorry that living in the Northwest Territories has prevented me from seeing her much over the years.

To Jeff and the rest of the Hyland family, we were sad to hear of the passing of your mom. I did not have the opportunity to meet her but I do know by the many conversations I had with Jeff that she was a special lady. Just know that you are in our thoughts and we wish all the best during this sad time in your life. Take care, Donna & Mark

Dear Jeff, Julie, Jill and families - we were saddened to read about the passing of your mother - my mind goes back to our days on MacDonald street and the wonderful friendship that we shared as our kids were growing up. We are in Florida for the winter and send our deepest sympathy to you all.

Julie, Jill and Jeff - on behalf of my Mom - Bev and I - we are so saddened to hear of your mother's passing. While I didn't spend a lot of time with her in the recent past - Shirley will always be remembered as a loving mother and I will not forget her good sense of humour. I recall my last visit with her a few years ago at her apartment - her body was weak - but her spirit was strong and her wit had not changed from what I recall as a child. Please know that we are thinking of you at this difficult time. All our love Wendy and Bev
