Having played ball with Mike for nearly 17 years, many stories and incidents come to mind at this sad time. I had the luck of drafting Mike on my team for 7 of those years, and whether I was playing with him or against him he always had the same lopsided grin and greeting. In all those years, I think I saw him strike out maybe 3 or 4 times total, he was a tough out, a stalwart at third base with just enough arm to always get the out at first. Mike was the one guy I could always count on to show up every week, and the one guy who would always call if he had to miss a game - his happy go lucky manner belied a true conscientious manner that earned the respect of everyone on the team. We found out about his passing at ball this Wednesday, the shock and sadness we experienced is nothing to what his family are going through right now and as acquaintances, teammates, and friends we would like to pass along our sincerest thoughts for the family at this time.
Mike - you'll be missed.

I'll always remember the fond memories we shared at Mikes house. He made us laugh and put us in line when needed! Looking back now he had so much patients with all of us girls hanging out at his house trying to stay out of trouble. Mike loved his guitar and playing for us-we would dance and sing which we knew he secretly enjoyed. I'll never forget you Mike and will think of you every day. We love you and miss you xox

Growing up with Melissa and Chris at Mike's house was always an adventure. From playing in the attic to Mike chasing us around the house, we always had a great time. My most fond memory of Mike will be him playing his base guitar to ACDC, turning down the music when "his solo" would come on so we could dance in the living room. Love you, miss you and you will be in our hearts and thoughts forever.

It was a sad experience realizing Mike is gone and won't be playing 3rd base tonight. On behalf of the Fitzroy Harbour Men's Fastball league, we offer condolences to his family. Mike has played in the league for at least 15 years - we will miss him. Knowing Mike's passion for sports, we will make a donation to the Hockey for Heart foundation.

Mike and I met at Pakenham's beautiful 5 arch bridge right by the water that took his life. He and I spent many times there walking along the shallow waters. He loved it there so much...who would have known.
I was shocked and horrified by his sudden and most tragic death. He was my very best friend and I will forever cherish the memories I have of him. I had stopped in to see him for a visit just 3 days earlier. I can't believe we will never see him again. I am so grateful that he was such a significant part of my life.
The picture above is my favorite of him. He was sooo handsome in his suit and tie. We were having dinner at my staff's X-Mas party back in 2007. I was working for the Conservative Party Fund of Canada and we were very excited to be seated at the front just 2 tables away from Steven Harper's table. Both of us were too shy to approach him to shake his hand but it was a very special event.
Thank you Mike for bringing so much happiness into my life. I will miss you and forever hold you in my heart. RIP Mike.

I first met Mike in Oromocto New Brunswick. Mike was new on the base and arrived with lot's of fan fair.Mike had been a baseball player and Hockey player while stationed in Germany. The thing was he wasn't just any baseball player but a pitcher for the Select Canadian Team . His claim to fame being that he pitched a no-hitter against the high and mighty American base Team. Mike and I spent many long hot New Brunswick afternoon's and evenings throwing a baseball had to be very careful at this as any humor at Michael's expense was certain to be met with the fastest most accurate and painful fast ball I had ever seen or had the misfortune of being forced to catch or chase.
And what a slap shot as I'm sure all of Mike's Hockey buddies can attest to. When we weren't oiling our gloves we were lifting weight's in his basement and when the family was away Mike always hosted the best parties on the base. Mike was the first to move off to the big city of Halifax and I spent many days visiting and listening to his great record collection.
I was thinking of Michael just last week and will continue to do so for the rest of my days.
