SMITH, Tom (Retired OPP Sergeant -Tilsonburg, Brockville, Perth, Manotick, West Carleton) Following a valiant and determined struggle with cancer, Tom left this world at the Ottawa General Hospital with loved ones by his side on Thursday evening, August 4th, 2011. Thomas James Smith of Pakenham at the age of 68 years. Dear son of the late Morley Smith and the late Helen McCaffrey. Cherished husband and best friend of Suzanne (nee Jobin). Dearly loved and admired father of Michelle Stanish (Richard) of Arnprior and Paul (Kristine) of Kanata. Proud and doting "Poppa" of Grace and Ashley. Loved brother of Clem (Doris) of Kinburn; John (Helen) of Woodlawn; Ernie (Gail) of Fitzroy Harbour; Pat (Michele) of Woodlawn; Sundance of Manotick; Raymond (Jane) of Kanata; Mary Lunney (Hugh) of Arnprior; Tillie Bastien (Garry) of Dunrobin and Helen McDonald (Greg) of Woodlawn. Tom was predeceased by his brother, Fr. Basil Smith. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and countless friends who loved and admired Tom for his courageous and positive outlook in life; not to forget his incredible sense of humour. Family and friends are invited to the Pilon Family Funeral Home & Chapel, 50 John Street North, Arnprior for visitation on Tom's birthday, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. only. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter Celestine Church, Pakenham on Tuesday morning, August 9th at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow at the St. Peter Celestine Parish Cemetery, Indian Hill Road, Pakenham. For those wishing to remember Tom, please consider donating blood. Tom was a regular recipient and most thankful for that "gift of life".
