Dear Mary, Sarah and Erik, I wanted to say again how sorry we are for the loss of Doug. Over these past few days I have remembered the times we cousins had together on holidays, especially at Gramma Ann (Rath) Francis' home and at the cottage. I will always treasure those memories of your Dad. Mary, Aunt Junie commented on your and Doug's wonderful relationship and how lovely it was to spend time with you. I am so sorry David and I could not attend the funeral service today. We came to Markham, ON on Friday to visit our children and grandchildren and planned to travel to Arnprior last evening. Unfortuately, I became very ill with the flu on Monday and Tuesday, David came down with the same. Please know that we are there with you in spirit and that we love you all very much. With our deepest sympathy, Susy (Ardiel) Ruch

My deepest sympathy to the whole family. Like everybody, I was very shocked to hear the news about Doug. He was already at the Library of Parliament when I became part of its staff in 1979 and we worked in the same area most of 25 years. In 2004, two years before retiring, I joined him at the Storage in Hull. We used to have lunch together. He often talked about the family, his volunteer firefighter job and golf. I could always count on Doug. Sometimes, I would inadvertently give him an incomplete call number for a publication and he would come back to me saying there was nothing under it, then pulling his hand from behind his back, he would hand it to me saying to make sure I get it right next time. I had the chance to meet Mary a few times when they were changing drivers arriving or leaving work, and Erik who spent a day with his scooter at Storage. I enjoyed working with Doug. Sincerely, Jean Côté, Retired reference librarian
