Dear Peter, Marcia and family, I was deeply saddened by the news of Bernie’s passing. I am so very sorry. This must be very difficult for you. Please know that you are in my thoughts and my prayers. Bernie was such a kind soul, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I will miss his friendship. Bernie and I grew up together in Pakenham and we chummed around for many years. He was one of my dearest and best friends. We went to school together in Pakenham and then again to St. Pat’s College in Ottawa. The years went by and we both married and had a family, but through it all we kept in touch from time to time. I recently went through a serious illness that I am still recovering from and one of my fondest memories of my stay in the hospital was having a visit from my good friend Bernie. He brought a smile to my face. Bernie called me on a few occasions after his visit with me in the hospital to see how I was doing. We are the same age Bernie and I and I know he lived a long and joyful life. Now that he is gone, I think about how much I will miss him. I know how much you his children will miss Bernie too, but you can take comfort and strength from the wonderful family you have and knowing that Bernie is watching over all of you from above. I am too ill still to have made it to the funeral service, but I wanted to send to you my deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of my dear friend Bernie Ruddy. May God bless you and your family during this time of sorrow and always. Hugh and Denise Nugent & Family Ottawa, Ontario

I remember this poem that you sent to me when my dad passed away and wanted to send it back to you: If I could catch a rainbow I would do it just for you And share with you its' beauty On this day you're feeling blue If I could build a mountain You could call your very own A place to find serenity A place to be alone If I could take your troubles I would toss them in the sea But all these things I'm finding Are impossible for me I cannot build a mountain Or catch a rainbow fair But let be what I know best A friend that's always there Our love and thoughts are with you on this day This mend so much to me when my day past away. Thank you for being part of my family.
