I would like to express my sincere sympathy to Gertrude, family, and friends. I first met Bill 12 or so years ago. I was camping on PEI with my daughter Susie and she wanted to go fishing so of to Georgetown we went. We had just got there when Bill and his family and friends were heading to their fishing boat. As Bill was walking by I asked him (I never met him before) where would be a good place to fish here. Without any hesitation he said come with us, even though I am an Islander and Not From Away, I told him I did not want to impose. He looked at my daughter and asked, would you like to go? The next thing I knew we were on board, I had a beer in my hand and my daughter had a pop. We introduced ourselves. We were both Ex RCAF, Bill was a very good friend of my friend, I was a good friend of Chuck, Gertrude's brother, and was an Usher at his wedding in Gimli,MB. Gertrude also knew my cousin Mary who was a nurse. It just went on and on...fantastic. We spent the whole afternoon with the family on the boat and shared their food and beverages and were taken back to their beautiful home. At some point I said to Bill..What a great little town you live in...I will never forget this...he said yeh... it is, "the only graveyard in PEI with Street Lights" I use that to this day to talk about a less then lively place. It was one of the best times my daughter and I ever had on beautiful PEI.
I have told this story many many times at family and social gathering and around ..camp fires with friends...A Finer Man I Have never Met...May God Rest His Gracious Soul..I regret that we have never met again....Peace to the Family.

Gertie it has saddened my heart to hear of your loss. Although havent been in touch for many years it doesn't mean you weren't in my thoughts. Living in Trenton now I often think of the days you and the family lived there. Visits to Pleasant Bay at North beach. Such fun times. Whenever Billy was present it was a great time with lots of love and
laughter. Your memories will be such blessing to you and your family in the coming months. My prayers are with you in this sad time of life.
Love
RuthEdwards, and Penny, Debbie and Jeff.

Dear Gertie and family....deepest sympathies sent to you today. Many of fond memories come to us today as we reflect on happy times with Billy. One that comes to mind is sitting on the back deck watching the beautiful sunsets and all the boats sailing up and down the river. Billy would always say "what more would a person ask for than to be sitting here with friends with this beautiful view". Also, many stories that were told around the kitchen table. His house was everyone's house....his doormat had "Welcome" to all who entered through his door.
Cheers our friend!! xox

Dear Gertie and all of Billy's extended family,
Patsy and I offer our sincere condolences on the occasion of Billy's death. I knew Billy when he was one of the coolest kids in Georgetown in the '60's. He was popular, athletic, charming, and well liked by everyone in town. I remember that he had a cool motorcycle and I was really impressed. May he rest in peace!

As a member of the Non-destructive Testing community within the Canadian Forces, I remember Bill's brash laugh and his devilish sense of humour when we were stationed together at CFB Trenton. Sincerest condolences to the Murphy family and God bless you all!

Uncle Billy you will always be remembered for your jokes and story telling. I still remember your famous line every morning after a FUN night with friends and family....'At least I have something to look forward to today' and we would ask what, and you would reply, 'That I will feel better then I do right now'.
