Many great memories at the high school track meets both as a competitor and later as a reporter, and when Patty was the competitor and John was the proud Dad. He was one of the good ones! Eleanor: I just noted John's passing in The Citizen to-day. I knew him throughout 4 years at OAC, was in Crop Science with him and went into teaching upon graduation. ..... only I retired to 'dairy farm' in 1974. Please accept my (our) condolences to all of you. I note The Heart Institute, Ottawa, as a charity of preference. I did not know John's medical history but I has open heart surgery -to repair a defective valve- there in Dec. of 2012. My results and care were excellent. One more step through the world .... .... It was with much sorrow that we learned of John's sudden passing. We admired him as a family man, and both he and Eleanor were always welcoming. We wish Eleanor, the kids and grandkids and all close to him the best in holding together to grieve his loss. John was a truly gentle man with straightforwardness and a super sense of humour. We recall the every-winter backyard rink that would have to be carefully scheduled so figure skaters and hockey players would not conflict. John was a widely respected farmer, neighbour, and teacher.
