Dear Nancy, Shawn, & Tracy,
My deepest sympathies. John was a man's man... intelligent, soft spoken, a spark of humour in his eyes and a warm and engaging way about him. Someone you always found easy to talk to, no matter how long since the last get-together. I had the pleasure of playing golf with John at Port Bruce a few years ago and even before that at a reunion here in Collingwood. You can tell a lot about a person by the way he plays golf. Follows the rules, stays calm even when things aren't going well, modest about a shot well hit and most of all enjoys the moment. One of my best memories... we were teeing off on the first hole at Blue Mountain GC, here in Collingwood, a par 4. I said, "John, you can tee off now, the group ahead is on the green." He said, "Are you sure?" I said, "Yes.' John then proceeded to hit the longest drive I have ever seen hit on that hole, landing just short of the green. He turned back to look at us, standing there with our mouths open... and smiled.
That is how I will remember John.
With love,
Murray Kierans
