Dear Brenda and Family,
I am so sorry to have heard of Trevor’s passing only recently. I want to offer my sincerest condolences and hope you are all coping as best as can be expected.
Trevor was a wonderful mentor during my time working as his assistant at the CEF. I so enjoyed knowing you both and have great memories of times spent together over glasses of his elderberry wine!
Trevor’s extensive horticultural knowledge has certainly benefited my career and I am forever grateful for that!
May he rest in peace!
Sincerely,
MJ Kelly

Dear Brenda:
Please accept my sincere condolences in Trevor's death. How well I remember him as curator of the arboretum who guided my various botany classes at the University of Ottawa around the arboretum. Over several years when such classes were still reasonably small in number I would ensure that my students would spend at least one laboratory session amongst the trees at the CEF under the guidance of an expert. I and at least some of those students are eternally grateful for such an experience. Also, as a hobby gardener, I relied on his published gardening expertise, as in, for example, the Readers' Digest book which my sister gave me for Christmas one year. Of course, I am now long retired from teaching (26 years) and also from gardening having moved from a house to a condominium apartment but I will always remember Trevor as the last curator of the arboretum and those tours so cheerfully given.

Trevor was such a helpful, sharing person. Thanks to his kind visit and straightforward advice, I have gardens at home and in the adjacent park which have grown in size and diversity over three decades now to the enjoyment of many My sincere condolences to you, Brenda and family. May the image of countless colourful, successful gardens be a lasting consolation in your loss.

We are truly sorry to hear of Trevor's passing. We were neighbours for many years and appreciated his sense of humour and his willingness to help with gardening advice. Also, the many times he arrived at our door with vegetables from his gardens was greatly appreciated. We have good memories of both Trevor and Brenda. Our sincerest condolences to all the Cole family.

Sincere condolences to Brenda and family,
I am really sorry to hear of Trevor's passing - another giant in the gardening community.
Not only that, but he was a beautiful person, so positive and helpful to everyone, sharing his vast knowledge and expertise. You and Trevor continued to share your lovely garden right up to last summer when you hosted another tour, and offered more interesting books for us to take home. I treasure them even more now. It must be very hard to adjust to his not being there; I will be thinking of you, and wishing you good health.
Heartfelt sympathy,
Josie Pazdzior

I wish I was better at conveying how sad this news makes me, and how helpless I feel about trying to find the words to lessen this pain for all of you, Trevor had a steadfast presence that easily stuck out, he was different from everybody else. It is difficult to even imagine that he will not be there.

I remember the trip to Fountains Abbey with Trev (1966) and then his arrival in Canada a year later, without his family while he worked as a temp at the farm awaiting his being hired on as a permanent employee. Mum used to worry about him, going off each morning in work clothes looking a little scruffy. She was not sure that he had done the right thing to leave England and come to Canada without a "real job" and she was worried for him. Boy, did her prove her wrong.
The last time I saw him, he was leading the chorus for the ACE (QCH) presentation and that day he surprised me! I knew both Trev and Bren loved music, I never knew that Trevor could conduct or lead a choral group. A pleasant surprise.
Trevor will be missed.
