Obituary of Wladyslaw "Wally" Szkarlat

Passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the age of 94 years, with his beloved wife by his side, at The Grove Nursing Home in Arnprior. Doting and loving husband of 69 years to Frieda Helene. Son of the late Jan and Waleria Szkarlat (nee Kosecka), and pre-deceased by siblings Josef, Stanislaw, Maria, Stanislawa, Jan, Franciszek, Tadeausz, and Zdzislawa,

all of Poland. Wladyslaw, fondly remembered as “Wally”, will be sadly missed by his wife, Frieda; a brother Ludwik of Poland; his children Edward of Arnprior, Robert (Diana) of Carleton Place, Elsa Scott (Robert) of Arnprior, Henry (Brenda Carter) of Ottawa, Barbara (McKeddie) Szkarlat of Sault St. Marie, Ontario, and Irene Sauvé (Paul) of Arnprior. Wladyslaw will also be missed by his grandchildren: Nicholas Szkarlat, Colin Szkarlat, Katrina Szkarlat (Tom Graham), Jonathan Scott, Ryan Szkarlat (Michelle), Kayla Szkarlat (Wesley Morris), Heather McKeddie, Donny Jr. McKeddie, Brianna McNulty (Ryan), and Nychelle McGrath (Sheldon); and great-grandchildren Connor and Liam McNulty, Paisley and Ava McGrath, Payton, Camden and Ryker Szkarlat, Skyler and Riley Leroux, and a precious  great-granddaughter soon to arrive. Born in Lyczanka, Poland in 1924, Wally spent a several years in a European army as a truck driver. It was there that he met the love of his life. They married in Kiel, Germany in 1948. Wally came to Canada in the 1950’s to work for Gillies Bros. Lumber Mill in Braeside for a number of years, then moved onto the Kenwood Mills (also known as Hyuck Canada, and Weavexx) from where he retired. He enjoyed a good card game with friends, gardening, and time spent with his grandchildren. A private visitation for family took place at the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior. Interment followed at the Malloch Road Cemetery, Arnprior.
