To Mike and Bernie and the rest of the Ryan clan, I just got back from a holiday when I read of Bill's passing. My deepest sympathies to the family. I always considered Bill to be a real gentleman and a good friend. I enjoyed his singing on radio and live when I had the chance to hear him. He has left his legacy with the picking, singing and grinning his family carries on today.

I have such good memories of Bill inviting me to step dance as a kid at St. Patrick's Day events, as well as seeing him at all the Herrick family gatherings, particularly when he would play guitar and sing. Bill has been part of our family since our children went to his house for child care back in the early '80's..He has always taken an interest in our family and we would refer to him as "Uncle Bill". I always admired his good sense of humor, lovely personality and how he could be a friend to everyone. The picture of Bill driving the horses (Pete and Cindy) was taken in 2006 when he was harrowing the grounds at our new vet hospital for grass seeding..it is one of my favorite pictures of all time.
I will miss Bill's smile, laugh and wonderful singing voice as will so many. We have lost an icon of the community, but Heaven has gained a wonderful angel..My prayers go out to Doreen and the beautiful Ryan family.

Our family was deeply saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. He and I were coworkers for many years at the RCMP farm. He was not one to get out of sorts, there seemed to be a solution to any problems that would arise and all were taken in stride. I think often of the times Shari and Chantal stopped at the barn after school, and Bill always had Juicy Fruit and gave them each a chiclet.

Fond memories of working with Bill up at the camp. Whenever it came time to make up the work bee teams, I always went with Bill and the horses. Favourite part was skidding the trees out of the bush with the reins in your hands and trying to stay balanced on the tree as it slid through the snow. Bill was so proud of the way he kept those pioneering traditions alive. Then after dinner out came the guitars of course; a tradition we all strive to keep alive. RIP Bill.

I remember running around on the roof of the barn. Bill called us down, "Boys", he said "you can run around on the lower roof. I just don't want you running up to the peak". Imagine that happening today? Not a chance!

Our sincere sympathy to all our cousins and their families. We always enjoyed Bill...happy, funny, and loved company. We enjoyed his Irish CD...and Mom played it every day. We will always miss him on St. Pat's Day...as he never hesitated to give us an old Irish song! Bill loved telling the story of Tom McWatty and his dog or the times that Wilf Nugent would roll the coins up the church floor with Tom trying to pick them up! Owen remembers well when Bill played for the Pakenham Panthers and apparently, when Bill was on the ice, players made sure they kept their heads up! Bill went on to coach the Panthers.
Bill was one of a kind and we will miss him dearly.

My condolences to Doreen, Mike, Bernie, Carmel, Shauna, Kelly. Darcy, and all of the Ryan family. We spent so much time on the farm with Bill, Grampa, Gerv, all of our aunts and uncles, and cousins; wonderful times that left us with lasting wonderful memories. I loved Bill dearly and I am very, very sad at his passing. A kind and gentle soul, Bill meant so much to so many. Rest in Peace Bill.
