Dear Doug, I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. It has been many, many years since you and I crossed paths. Often think of your family and the good times at the T-Bell. My favourite story of John is from the 70's. My friend Hazel, from England, and I were travelling out west. We arrived in Vancouver about 4 days before our flight home to Ottawa. We were young, naïve and almost broke! John came to our rescue. He welcomed us into his condo and gave us the best four days of our trip. A knight in shining armour! God bless you John. May you rest in peace.

Marilyn, Doug & Debbie – My heart goes out to you in the loss of your “big” brother, John. I knew him best as a child before your family moved to New York. In those days, we had a milkman and a breadman who came to the house. The breadman always called “Omar Man” at the front door. One morning, when John & Marilyn were up before Dick & Lois, they ran to the door and John ordered his favorite cream filled chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing. He loved sweets and the cakes were gone before breakfast. We all laughed at his ability to capitalize on an opportunity. May loving memories of John ease your grief. All my love – Aunt Carolyn

To John, from old teenage friends. You brought humor and friendship to White Lake from the Big Apple. Always looked forward to your summer visits. Got a bit lost in later life and but we have good memories. We will share a drink or two in your memory.

My sympathies to all of you. You are all in my thoughts. When I think of John, I see his smile whenever I saw him. I will always remember him wanting to take me fishing. Debbie, John was special. There was no one else like him. May happy memories and laughs heal your sorrow.

I grew up in Arizona, a long way from the Tilley family. But, I have some good memories of visiting them with my mother on Long Island in the 1960's and of John in particular from the time in the early 1970's when he and I were at Ohio State together.
The family celebrated his graduation together -- we were all so proud!
My own favorite memory, however, was when he invited me to go to an outdoor movie theater together. You remember those -- with the tinny metal boxes that fastened to the windows? It was a beautiful Ohio summer night - warm with a cool breeze and the smell of woods and flowers on the air.
When he invited me, John asked what I liked to drink. A little startled, I said "a martini." (Still true today). Well, we settled in with some popcorn and snacks to watch the movie, and John produced a thermos -- of ice-cold martinis! Of course, he had a jar of olives too. I don't remember the film but I remember laughing with John.

Marilyn & Vern, Doug & Kate, Debbie & Gord and family,
I remember John from years back when your family moved from New York to White Lake. We rode horses on a midnight ride through Sleepy Hollow with Jim McEwen, Joanne Baker and others. John loved the outdoor adventure with the hat to match. My many years working for Dick & Lois at the T-Bell restaurant and bar, John was always there, Doug's big brother. You have taken good care of John over the years, may he Rest in Peace.
Sincerely with Love,
Debbie
