So sad to hear that another of my “pseudo” brothers has passed. Sometimes it seems like just yersterday I was hanging out at the McNulty house, being treated like one of the family. I am so sorry to hear this news. Dean was great to work for at the Sun when I was a general assignment reporter. My condolences to Roxanne, his daughters and grandkids. You have all been through such difficult times, but Dean made it clear your love is strong. It makes us cry, but it quietly carries us too.

So sorry to hear about Dean's passing. I thought for sure he had it beat because, if anyone could win the battle with cancer it would be Dean. I read that Dean originally wasn't too keen on the Dean of Speed. But it suited him like he would suit no other. My condolences to Rox and family.
Sending my best to the McNulty family. Dean was absolutely one of my favorites - as a respected fellow sportswriter but also as a dear friend. We sat alongside one another at the Indy 500s and covered many races together for decades. He spoke so lovingly of his family and I can only imagine. your loss. Dean was one of the best people I have ever known. ... a gentleman, a friend, a talent and a person I have long looked up to. This makes me so very very sad.

We've never met, but Dean was always one of the people on the Sun's news desk who I remember as being kind, welcoming, and happy to teach me when I was a young, clueless high school intern back in '98. Crushed to hear of Dean's passing - as a young PR professional in the sport, Dean was one of the first members of the media that I really developed a friendship with. He provided wisdom and insight when I was just starting out and finding my way. I appreciate the continued friendship he showed me over the years, and am fiercely praying for his family...... he loves you so very much and always lit up when speaking about you all.

My heart just breaks. Dean adored you. He had such a wicked sense of humor. That's probably what I loved the most about him. He was always so kind and generous with his time. I will always cherish the time we spent together at and away from the track.
