I worked with John at the National Archives and we went on trips together in pursuit of archival material. He was such great company -a great sense of humour and knowledge of the best places to eat at a reasonable price (often truck stops). John was a hard worker and could always be depended upon to make arrangements and to drive through all sorts of weather. He had a "can-do" attitude which was particularly appreciated after a change in government when we had to move large quantities of archival records from Parliament Hill office to the National Archives.
My most memorable trip with John was when he accompanied me and my family to Boston in 1975 when I ran in the Boston Marathon. John did all the driving and ferried my family to places along the course so that they could see me run my first marathon. In addition, John took some great photos which I still display. Photography was one of his hobbies.
I am sorry that I have just learned of John's passing and I send my condolences to his family. John was one of a kind.

I was so sorry to hear about John's passing. John was such a kind man and was so good to my Aunt Audrey. We felt so lucky that she had some like him to help her when she needed help. My thoughts go out to his friend Joanne and the Smith family from ours.

Such fond memories of John and his dedication to the Arnprior & McNab/Braeside Archives - retrieving his little notebook for his report and plans, his presence as ‘outreacher’ at so many community events, shelving/equipment finder and provider . . and, of course, a number 1 Habs and train fan! Thank you, John. Sincere condolences to you, Joanne, and family members.
