Dan was always a watchful eye when we had parties in the basement on Dan Street - I wonder why! - and he and Donna always had an open door and warm home for us kids to visit. Donna, Chuck & Susan, Jane & Bob, Marty & Pat, Greg & Teisha, Allison & Greg and to all the grandchildren and great grandchildren..........I am so sad to hear that you have lost Dan.....a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
I have enjoyed some visits with Dan and Donna over the last few years and his dry sense of humour made the visits fun as always! Whenever I would run into Dan and Donna they have a unique way of making you feel "special".....always so interested in asking how my family are doing.....and I appreciated that. I felt special when Dan "sold" me a copy of his book "My Heroes". I actually don't think I ever paid him.....????? Dan was not to have a "best seller" and make millions off of his book......but he died a man rich in family and good friends.....his book was an amazing tribute to family and to a life (his life) well lived! I enjoyed the book very much. Thinking of you all.......so sorry at this time of COVID that you can't have the traditional Irish Wake for Dan......the line up would be long and the stories told to be cherished. I will share with you on Thursday evening the sending off of a great man!

Bill and Gail Erickson and Family are so saddened by the passing of our very good Friend, Dan Smith. We became acquainted with Dan and Donna when our son Greg Married their beautiful daughter, Allison, and since then, we have enjoyed many wonderful times at each other’s homes. Dan and Donna built a beautiful home on the Ottawa River where family and friends enjoyed water sports of every kind. Dan had a great sense of humour and family gatherings produced much laughter and happy memories.
Dan’s love of Family and Friends was very evident in his book “My Heroes”, which he wrote and published. He was also influential in the Canadian Lumber Industry, which was his life work, and in later years was active in Community events.
