Obituary of John McTernan
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden loss of John. He was born in Woodlawn on October 13, 1947 and raised at the family farm on Dunrobin Road at Crown Point. John passed away peacefully in hospital on Sunday, August 15, 2021 in his 73rd year. Son of the late Hugh and Eva McTernan, John was the dearly beloved husband of Joan McTernan (nee Sauriol) for 49 years. Loving father of Sean (Catherine), Jason (Ashley). Cherished brother of James (Muriel). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Liam, Brendan, Quinn, Marcus and Malcolm. Fondly remembered by his extended family, in-laws and cousins, nephews and nieces.
John retired from MDS Nordion after retuning from 8 years in the North West Territories. Never very far from his rural roots, Joan and John raised their two boys in a sprawling bungalow which they built, overlooking the Ottawa River, running the boys to sports and social events throughout the valley. As the family grew, they renovated the house to accommodate an enormous dining table so all would have a seat at the table for gatherings of the large and growing extended family that he and Joan enjoyed so much in retirement. Friends may pay their respects at a celebration of life which will be held at their home on Saturday, August 28th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In memory, donations may be made to the Ottawa Civic Hospital Foundation. The kindness of the nurses and doctors helped at this difficult time. John’s final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior.
