We met Kathy and Chris several years ago on a cruise. The bonds of friendship were immediate and lasting. We were blessed to share a couple more travels with them before his illness and covid shut the door to more adventures. Chris was one of the most positive individuals I've ever met. How could you not love him! He and Kathy were such a lovely couple together and it was obvious how much he loved her. I wish we had met them earlier so we could share more rounds of trivia and they could teach us a few more card games. May God comfort you, my dearest Kathy and may Chris be resting peacefully in the arms of our Lord. Beth Kellogg, cruise pal

Cathy, Marcus and I are so saddened to hear of Chris’ passing. He was genuinely one of the kindest people I have ever met. Chris was the first person who welcomed us when we moved in 3 years ago and never stopped extending his kindness to us. We were blessed to have moved in beside you both; Chris will be greatly missed.

Our sincerest condolences to the Tonkin family. It was always a pleasure to meet with Chris to discuss our common interests in the electrical field, and more importantly in the area of music. A true gentleman with a kind spirit and no nonsense approach, he was an inspiration to all who had the good fortune to share time with him.

Our community appreciates all that Chris did. If he wasn't building sets for local theatre he was setting up chairs and pianos for choir practice and risers for the performances. He could build anything from a flying car to a sailing peach and everything in between. He came up with ingenious ways to create magical doorways into the imaginations of all who attended the shows. He was beloved by the young stage crew that he supported and worked alongside. He always had a smile and a hug and had a genuine interest in the people around him. He and Kathy so often opened their home for us to gather. Two Rivers Musical Productions and the Arnprior Community choir were so blessed to have Chris in their midst. His passing is a profound loss. My deepest sympathy Kathy and family.

Chris, Kathy and Loulou have been neighbours of our since we bought our house across the road from them. We often watched them play fetch with Loulou and exchanged many waves back and forth either walking by or cutting grass. Our son Jesse has grown up waving to the neighbours and they to him since his birth. It was always nice to say hello and there was always a smile and a chuckle each time we met. Kathy if you get the chance to read the poem called “The Dash” please do so as it sums up what really counts of someone’s life in our opinion. Our deepest sympathies go out to you Kathy and all family members in this time of loss.

What a joy to have known Chris! Kind, generous, sweet -- just a lovely, lovely man. And watching Kathy and him together was to see two people genuinely in love. I was so honoured to work with him on the choir and theatre execs and to see how he could handle any problem thrown at him! And I'll always remember his amazing Cinderella coach. Rest in peace dear friend.

Chris always greeted us with a warm smile, even on days when he wasn’t feeling well. The cliché “with a twinkle in his eye” actually DOES apply to Chris and his charismatic, friendly countenance. He was always there to help Philip with any project he might have, ready with quick, effective advice, and of course ever with the right tools at hand! Confident and positive also come to mind when describing Chris: just a wonderful friend and easy to be around. We shared an appreciation of music, a past connection in Sudbury, a liking for golf as well as a do-it-yourself approach to home projects, enjoying the camaraderie of a good meal and funny stories, as well as the love of gardening. We also admired how dedicated Chris was to helping others, his workshop and his inventiveness, his time in our community choir as well as Two Rivers Productions. We’ll miss him dearly. Our deepest condolences to Kathy and all his family. Philip and Iris Candelaria

Jacqui and I extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Kathy and family.
Chris truly was the engine of our choir. He was the first to arrive and the last to leave Tuesday evenings … and in between managed to solve every logistical problem a choir could possibly face. We will miss Chris’ warm smile, his extended hand shake that turned into a hug, and of course his wonderful voice. Chris’ warm personality and subtle sense of humour was felt by everyone in the choir. He truly is irreplaceable!
Rest peacefully good friend … Myles & Jacqui Henderson

Heartfelt prayers go out to Kathy and all the family.
Such an honour to have spent so much time on musical theatre productions with a man of such industry, generosity and positivity. Sharing a birthday with Chris (and our other birthday buddy, Myles!) but 10 years my senior, Mr. Tonkin remains a mentor for me as I face future projects without him.

Dear Kathy, I came to know Chris through Arnprior Community Choir. He was very welcoming to new choir members and quick with a good joke or two. Chris brought his Light to every event in which the choir was involved. Such a hard working and organized fellow. He was just an extra special person, who will be missed so much by so many. My heart goes out to you and your family. Maggie

Kathy, we are sending our love, prayers and heartfelt condolences to you at this most difficult time.
Chris was one of those rare people that you fall in love with the minute you meet them. His positivity and enthusiasm were catching. Spending time with him was always a joy. Working with him was a great pleasure because nothing was ever a problem. He seemed to draw energy from working to solve the thorniest of set backs. He was a great story teller and always had an interesting or funny tale to share. We never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. He was a consummate gentleman. We will miss him terribly.
