Obituary of Jeff Herrick
It is with the utmost sadness; the family announces the sudden loss of Jeffrey Herrick. (61)
Jeff leaves behind his cherished wife, best friend, and co-pilot; Sonia, of 21 years.
He was fiercely proud of his two amazingly beautiful daughters; Kate Reid and Margaret Reid (Meg) (Matthew Lewis) who will sincerely miss him. He looked at them in wonder at what caring and successful young adults they have come to be.
Born in Arnprior ON Jeff was the precious son of Desmond and Doris Herrick (both predeceased). He was the beloved, treasured, and “spoiled” brother of 4 sisters: Joanne McLaren (Mackie), Mary-Catherine Eva (Doug), Donna Symington (Rod), and Anita Schnurr (Don).
He was a step-son to Doreen Anderson-Herrick and step-brother to her children. Jeff was the adored son-in-law to Italo (Lou) Gorassini and Sandra Gorassini and brother-in-law to Monica Gorassini (David Bennett).
Jeff was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews, extensive family, and many friends, especially Steven Nava with whom he shared an extraordinary “brotherly “bond.
Jeff was a “star” in the information technology field and was highly regarded and respected by all of his colleagues. For any critical computer issues, Jeff was the “go to guy”. By just his natural way of wanting to share what he learned, Jeff often took on a mentoring role supporting and encouraging the more junior programmers.
Jeff was extremely generous. He shared his passions freely with others; rides in his luxury sports car, gourmet meals he lovingly prepared (always paired perfectly with fine wine, of course) virtual journeys on his new flight simulator and trivia, … or what he commonly referred to as “his useless bits of knowledge”.
Sonia wishes to express her appreciation to the caring staff at the Cancer Centre of the Ottawa Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Centre of the Ottawa Hospital. A private service is being planned for Jeff’s immediate family, as well as a Celebration of his life to be held in the spring, his favourite season.
Jeff, words can not express the pain and emptiness in our hearts, but we all take comfort in the fact that you lived each day to the fullest.
Drive free and fly high now Jeff!
