Obituary of Doug Stewart

(Retired Ottawa Board of Education) With heavy hearts, the family announces that Doug passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home in Arnprior on Tuesday morning, December 21, 2021; Douglas McLachlan Stewart was 87. Beloved husband for over 68 years of June (nee Kerr). Much loved and proud father of the late Nancy Nardone (Sal) of Stittsville; Stephen Stewart (Diane) of Toronto and Janet Fuso (Tony) of Kanata. Cherished grandfather of Lauren, Corey, Ryan, Isabel, Emily and Olivia. Dear brother of Betty Fraser (late Nelson) of Arnprior and Bob Stewart (June) of Perth. Predeceased by his parents: John F. and Pearl (nee Headrick) Stewart as well as siblings: Marion Watt (late Art), Jim Stewart (late Margaret), Earl Stewart (late Annette) and Donald (Cathy). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. His family and friends will miss his vibrancy, generosity and dry sense of humour. His fishing tales, love of the outdoors, and stories about legendary close calls in his life were a cherished part of family folklore. He was an accomplished curler, could build or repair anything and had a wealth of knowledge in botany and local history/geography. We all relied on his vast store of lived experiences. His grandchildren will all miss the insistence that they take a tomato plant, a jar of homemade jam, and a block of ice to keep things cool. Special thanks to Dr. Kurian and first responders for going above and beyond in their assistance. Doug’s final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where a funeral service will be webcast live from the Pilon Family Chapel on Saturday, January 8th at 2pm.
