I just learned of the passing of Kurt. Kurt and I worked together for twenty years at NRC. He was an amazing technologist and one of Canada's top experts on high voltage pulsed power. He played a crucial role in the development of high power infrared and ultraviolet lasers. One of the most memorable projects was the world's first use of high power pulsed excimer lasers to vaporize plaque in the coronary arteries of human patients. The work performed in 1987 was part of a collaboration with Dr. Keon head of the University of Ottawa's Heart Institute. A picture of Kurt manning the laser and fiber-optic delivery system in the operating room is shown along with a picture of Kurt at his retirement party from NRC.
Kurt was not only an outstanding laser technologist but also a great Guy. He will be missed by all that knew him.
