My condolences to Billy's family and friends. I have wonderful childhood memories of Billy up at the cottage - he took my brother's (the Munro kids) and I on trips to the 'falls' and we always loved the land & water relay days - I still have trophies and ribbons at home and they're some of my best memories. May he rest peacefully and forever watch over all the children having fun at the cottage.

Bill McDonald was my best friend of 71 years of shared experiences, long phone calls and discussions and my introduction to his special places and friends including Sunny Corner , New Brunswick and particularly the beautiful, friendly world of “Woodridge” outside Fitzroy Harbour. Wherever Bill lived he had a wholesome, enthusiastic impact in organizing those in his communities, particularly the young people as well as many years of croquet games some of which ended which car lights illuminating the last wickets. We first met in fifth grade in Hampton, Virginia where he soon made a daily habit of riding his undersized bicycle , “Old Betsy”, the mile from his home to our special neighborhood where we played baseball and football and he became a very welcome fixture at our house where my mother lovingly called him “Good Old Billy”. From the moment he first came to visit our neighborhood he began recruiting us to come up to Woodridge where I finally alighted in 1963 followed by others from our old neighborhood. We had perhaps thousands of long discussions in person and on the phone, albeit abiding by his sacred rules. We laughed heartily about things that no one else understood. Our last conversation was a bit more than a week before he passed away with his exceptionally loyal and lovingly dedicated sister at his side. After 4 strokes his famous belly laugh was reduced to a whisper but the joy was still there. He was blessed by his sister Diane’s perpetual efforts, by the uplifting personnel at the Villa in Arnprior and the Groves Park Lodge in Renfrew, by his favorite “listening partner”, Debby Fiset and by the numerous attentions by Bill and Helen Hackett. There is now a gap in my life but a combination of wonderful memories and the very special Canadian friends whom he brought into my life remain.

Bill really was an inspiration to us all, and summers at Woodbridge would not have been the same without him being there to take charge and organize some kind of activity. I learned to water ski with him being spotter in John’s boat, and after countless falls, I finally succeeded, and subsequently had a career of show skiing, ending with Expo ‘67. He took me on a tour of Camp Kanawana during the time he was a councillor there, and, he was ever so proud. Whenever he came through the Montreal area, we managed to get together for a visit. The last I saw Bill was a few years before he went into the Arnprior Villa. We had a nice lunch and recounted many of the wonderful memories we had as kids growing up at the cottage, in an era that obliged us to create our own fun.
Bill’s laugh, kindness and generosity will always be remembered, and, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to his family, and all of his friends.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to Bill's family. I taught with Bill in Buckingham for many years. The last time I saw Bill was when he insisted on taking me out to dinner after my husband had passed away. We ate at Buckingham Pizza, one of his favourite spots. He gave me a book that he had put together a few years back with pictures he taken of events & people from BES. We had a nice time reminiscing. I have memories of playing croquet on the front lawn of the school, attending a big antique event in Ottawa, walking the picket line at BES in the middle of winter & Bill only wearing shoes with holes in them and many others.

After watching the video of Bill's funeral I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone for honoring Bill so beautifully.
Because I am here in Hampton and Bill was an avid walker I decided I would walk from our old home at 228 Pembroke to Fred's old home at 92 College Place at 1:00 on May 29th. This was a route that Bill took many, many times but mostly on his bike.I pictured him with his football under his arm and blonde hair flying (before helmets were required) riding happily to Fred's as I had seen him do so often. Half way through the walk I was afraid I had tackled too much (what was I thinking?!!) but I heard a little voice saying, "you can do it Judy Bug", and I went on to finish. Bill was a cheerleader to us all.
Thank you "one and all" for the wonderful support you have given to Diane, Tim and Fred.
And to Bill, "Thanks for the Memories"!

We will always remember Bill, his hat, his rundown shoes and how much he enjoyed being "just Bill". The Woodridge Revordkeeper will live on in our hearts and memories. Love you, Bill. Go with God.

Our deepest condolences to you all. What lovely memories I have of Bill, taking him on outing, dining out and definitely ice cream.
Len and I will never forget our trip to Wilco, where we almost forgot Bill in the church, or always teasing him about that old beige hat. It was a privilege to have spent time with Bill when we worked the the Arnprior Villa.

Although I hadn't seen Bill in many years we managed to stay in touch. I enjoyed receiving his newsy Xmas letters and of course his "Bio" in which he managed to preserve so many wonderful memories of Woodridge over the years. Reminders of summers at the cottage always involved activities Bill organized. He really did touch many lives in a positive way.
My condolences to his family & friends.

Bill McDonald.
One of a kind, a true treasure.
Comfortable with himself and his convictions.
Loved his friends and family deeply and without reservation.
Bill’s hat.
When I was learning to draw, Bill graciously offered to pose for me and even suggested some interesting poses that he felt showed his uniqueness to full advantage.
He was not totally happy with my drawings of him, although he did hang them in his various residences, he thought they were too true, “warts and all” he said to me.
Bill and my late husband Doug had been friends since childhood and had shared many (mis)adventures in their younger years. Whenever they got together in their later years, they laughed and reminisced about the good summers they shared as boys, boating, swimming and whatever other mischief that boys could get into.
My sincere and deep sympathy to Tim, Jo, Judy and Diane, his loyal and loving caretaker, and to his dear and long time friends, Fred Gustafson and Bill and Helen Hackett.

A beautiful encapsulation of the life of a very special parson, not just to his immediate family but to the countless other lives Bill touched including ours “The Barratt’s”. There are so many memories, too many to recount individually but each is a treasured snapshot into the life of a person who made you laugh, who lived life on his own terms and who never regretted a single day.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Tim, Johan, Judy & Diane
Greg & Debbie Fiset, Erin & Darren Sabino and the boys Andrew & Cameron ( Cameron got to meet Bill when he was about
four years old. Bill let him steer his boat on the way back from a picnic he, Erin, Cam, and myself Debbie had at Moers Island. Cam was thrilled beyond words and took his job very seriously.)

My deepest sympathies to Tim, Johan, Judy, Diane and Fred. To the author of this obituary you have captured Bill in this beautiful tribute. To say Bill touched so many lives would be an understatement. Life is a collection of memories and Bill created a wealth of good times for the kids of Woodridge (now all grown up). And his close friends like Bill and Helen Hackett, Fred Gustafson and his brother Tim who were persistent in trying to keep him on track, if that was possible. I remember his dogged enrolment of everyone in the Land and Water Relay and his schemes to surprise Fred when he ventured north. Thank you Bill for the wonderful times. And thank you Diane for your care of Bill, for protecting the photos and videos Bill produced and making sure he had family close by. On behalf of myself and my brothers, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Terry, Thank you for doing the readings and leading the service for Bill and doing it so very well. You are just who Bill would have asked. Diane, Tim and Fred gave to Bill what he loved the most...their time. With a great deal of love attached. Thank you so much to everyone.
