Obituary of Emmett Ryan

With family by his side at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 12, 2022, Emmett Gerard Ryan, of Arnprior passed away at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Verna Ryan (nee Moloughney) for 57 years. Dearly loved father of Jennifer Richardson (Kevin) and Matthew Ryan (Christa). A dedicated and cherished “grampa” to 5 grandchildren, Katie, Ryan, Alyssa, Ellie and Isla. Dear brother to Rita Ryan, Rosaleen Anderson (late Jack), Eleanor Lecours (Peter), Adele Ryan and his surviving brother and best friend, Pat Ryan (Madeleine). Predeceased by brother Bill Ryan (Doreen) and Gervais Ryan (late Eleanor) and sisters Mary Stanton (late Ritchie) and Alice McGrath (late Des). Son of the late Bill Sr. and Carmel Ryan. Lovingly remembered by Verna’s extended Moloughney family. Mourned by many nieces and nephews. Emmett had a special relationship with his Ryan nephews for which he was a cherished mentor and friend. Emmett grew up on the 12th line in Pakenham and resided in Arnprior where he was involved in many community activities while enjoying the company of good friends. He was a proud employee at Pfizer for 42 years. He was a true outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, farming, cutting firewood and boating on the Ottawa River. A kind gentleman he loved nature and the simple things in life. Family was his most treasured joy. Emmett would always say he was “going out to the country” whether to fix a fence post, watch the crops blowing in the wind or report on the sap flowing in the spring. Dad was a strong man of faith. God has called him on his final journey “out to the country”. Emmett’s care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday, October 17th from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John Chrysostom Church, Arnprior on Monday morning, October 17th at 11 o’clock. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall with interment at St. Peter Celestine Parish Cemetery, Indian Hill Road, Pakenham. In memory of Emmett, please consider a donation to the Arnprior, Braeside and McNab Seniors at Home Program or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
