Obituary of Kim Scheel

We are heartbroken to announce Kim’s sudden and unexpected passing on Sunday February 12th, 2023, at the age of 68.

Kim was predeceased by his parents Garnet and Margaret Scheel (Timpson).

Left to mourn is his best friend and love of his life, Joanne (Merrifield). They shared 50 years together and created a lifetime of love, laughter, and beautiful memories.

His three children Nikyla (Ken); Gavin (Katie) and Grady (Ashley) were blessed to know this kind of love. He was their world, a constant source of love, support, patience, and guidance. He gifted them with precious memories they will carry with them always.

He was a proud and doting Papa to his six adoring grandkids, Shaefer, Briar, Barrett, Ollie, Oshie and Miller who already miss him dearly. He was present at their births and for every moment in between. The wee babies will grow up knowing just how much they meant to their Poppy. His lap was never empty, filled always with babies and big kids alike.

His loss will be felt deeply by his brother Rick (Alice), sister Tracy Colasante (Joe), and sister-in-law, Sharlan Clark (Neil). Kim had the good fortune of growing up surrounded by the love of his 50 plus aunts and uncles, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends, all whose hearts are broken.

His meaningful career as a firefighter left an indelible impact on his two sons who both proudly followed in his footsteps as firefighters with the City of Ottawa.

To know him was to love him, but to be loved by him was magical.

His kind, loving and easy-going nature made him a soft place to land for so many. He was a father figure, friend, confidant, and mentor to countless people throughout his life. He had a generous spirit, always offering a helping hand, sage advice, and most importantly, one of his infamous bear hugs.

His personal legacy is his deep love and devotion to those who were lucky enough to know him.

Kimmy, while we didn’t have nearly enough time together, you loved us enough to last a hundred lifetimes. We will honour you by loving others as unconditionally as you did.

Kim’s Final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where visitation took place on Saturday evening, February 18th from 6-8 and again on Sunday morning from 11 to 12:45. A Service to honour Kim's life took place in the Pilon Family Chapel at 1 o'clock on Sunday afternoon.

In his memory, and in keeping with his spirit of generosity, please feel free to consider a donation to the Ottawa Mission, the Ottawa Food Bank or any other charity serving those in need.
